Overwatch

Badly need to address the leaving penalty in this. Quite time consuming to gain ranks in pub competitive and it simply ruins it. The matchmaking is also pretty dire when most of the players are just under the team ranking average but boosted by someone 5 ranks higher that carries the team - quite often as a good healer/tank.

My last two loot boxes have all been sprays. Just pointless. I'm level 24 and don't think I've unlocked one legendary yet, best has been pink iirc.

Absolutely loving Overwatch, I've never really bought into a multiplayer only game and played it continuously.
Helps I've got friends I play with like.

Few odd niggles, Tracers ult has laughable AOE =/.

Yeah it's really fun :) True on Tracer's ultimate, but it's more for deleting high profile targets or using in conjunction with other ultimates (like Zarya).

what do mean the leaving penatly

When an individual leaves in competitive, they aren't replaced. This is virtually then a default loss. The only penalty is a single loss and lack of xp for the individual which is virtually irrelevant. I doubt blizzard remove many people from competitive all together from leaving too often. Regarding the matchmaking, the single player carry is present all the way up the chain it seems. As an example, some of the c9 players in public at rank 75+ are put in with high level 50s, some low 60. The average team rank is made equal by the opposing team having a majority well above 60 but not even close to 75+. The issue is that the players on the c9 players team can just about cope with the higher rank players on the opposing team, they don't however come out on top on average as you would expect. However, the players on the opposing team simply cannot cope with the c9 player at 75+. This completely sways the balance. Blizzard would be far better off removing this system and increasing queue times for a more balanced game. I think the majority of people would happily wait longer in the queue to see this happen.

Oh right, I get you. I thought you might've been talking about the XP penalty for leaving too many quick plays. You're right though, they should definitely put a stacking temporary ban on competitive if you leave.

Has anyone ever played a quick play game where the result is close?
I've played a few but I'd say 90-95% of the time it's a stomping one way or the other.

It'd be nice to get more games that aren't over until the last 30-60 seconds.

The whole team balance thing is an interesting one as every character has its pros and cons. I'm not sure this game suits public competitive at all though compared to say cs go or the like. Presuming skill is roughly equal, you still normally get 2 in a team simply not willing to make ideal character choices. They may be 'OK' players, but choosing a hanzo when you already have a widowmaker and mcree starts to become annoying if you've had to spend the last 30 minutes putting in some real effort to go up half a rank. It gets undone within seconds in the next game through hero choice/leaver.

Uninstalled :D The grind feels like a complete waste of time given how easily it's undone by a leaver in an instant - something totally outside your own control. This combined with plain daft hero choices from the power of the average joe makes for a tiresome competitive game.

I dropped 5 levels this morning in competitive (48 -> 43) and spent 3 hours this evening clawing my way back to 48.

Hours of gaming just to stay where I was :)

They aren't levels though - they're rankings.
If they work correctly, you should hit about the right point and then go up and down a bit, always returning to around that rank. Variation over a few hours of play should be meaningless - it's the long term trend that should matter.

The only way to 'permanently' increase would be to get consistently better at a faster rate than most players.

Obviously, when you have a run of bad luck and find yourself in a lower skilled bracket it can feel very painful to pull out of it, specifically because the people you're playing with (and against) will be worse than you're used to. No cure for that.

The rankings are on a bell curve - once you're above rank 50 you are better than the majority of players.

for example, by skill rating 54, you're actually in the top 30% of players.

Really uninstalled? Not just "I'll leave this for a bit" or "I'll play some quick play"?
Try using the reddit find-a-group thing - any premade, even one of strangers, will be better than solo queue if you're really that tilted by rubbish teammates. At least you know it's people who are willing to try/talk.
