What happened between the 970 and 1070?

Its ourselves as ive said before, we don't give a **** how much they cost, as we are happy to pay it, why elee are they not just left on the shelves, or piling up in warehouses just collecting dust.

Cause people want new shiny...

If amd had a threat card out the pricing would be different.

NV can price high due to no competition it's basic economics...

You can't blame a business for maximising profits...

Amd currently suck...they have nothing to even get close ....meaning NV are not defending anything by lowering prices...

I'll buy what ever brand....but I won't buy mediocrity to support lame amd at this time....it's bad for all of us.

Nvidia will price the cards whatever they want because they know you and people like you will pay just about whatever Nvidia ask, regardless of what AMD do.

And thats fine, just don't blame AMD for the bed you made for yourself.

You're out of your depth.....you need to understand basic economics...

A premium will always be paid for performance regardless of product...

I mean come on it's not hard to get :p

If amd brought out a 1080 killer I'd be on that....but they brought out a 480 lol

A pathetic excuse for a gfx card in 2016

The RX 480 smashes the 1060 in anything but old yesterdays technology and badly developed crap.

The 1060 is a little quicker today and a lot slower tomorrow, just like all previous generations of Nvidia cards the performance will fall to rock bottom. they are always yesterdays cards.

You don't buy Nvidia for performance.

The new amd card should be compared to NV flagship not a 1060 kids card :p

The 970 was 30 - 40% more powerful than the GTX 770 it succeeded. The 1070 is almost twice as powerful as a 970. I agree the price is a bit of a sore point but it is a more significant upgrade. With a lack of decent competition Nvidia are going to charge as much as they can get away with - and as far as I can see there appears to be no shortage of buyers.

That you seem to want one shows quite how much an upgrade it is. I skipped the 970 when I was using the 770 as to me the performance gain wasn't significant enough to warrant upgrading.

I swear AMD are the new HTC. Perfectly capable of making decent products but have a tendency of making slightly damaging decisions.

the 470/1050 might be a nice scrap, $150-$200 id say where the budget 1080p gamer is
not everyone cares about VR, i know thats shocking to some but its true >.<

It is the same with the CPU section. AMD don't compete and hence you have Intel charging the premium. We now have the same for the GPU section. Whilst NVidia have the free roam of the top end, they can charge what they like and anyone who wants a decent GPU for gaming will have to pay it or buy something slower for less.

Mind you, you could always buy a Duo for £1289 if you want a card to compete

That should give the upcoming $1200 Titan X a run for the money :p

Nvidia can charge what they like as AMD offer no competition at the high end at the moment, simple business economics.

Look at the 1060/480, Nvidia have priced it more inline as it has to compete with it.

Both Intel and Nvidia have always out sold AMD even when AMD had the better products, they grew their market share against AMD during that time.

Clearly how competitive AMD are or not has nothing to do with it, nor will it ever.

I have tried to explain this to him...but it's not going in...:p
