I'm considering moving up to Miui 8 on my Redmi Note 3 however I can't seem to figure out how to get the update rom loaded. I'm on Global 7.3.7.0 Stable LHOMIDD, whatever that means.

I see all this talk of unlocking bootloader, and have permission but it doesn't work. I can't seem to flash any of the Miui 8 beta roms using the updater.

Does anyone have any advice? Thanks.
 
Thanks. Tried that but for some reason it keeps telling me it can't verify package. The zip file seems to be fine but the updater doesn't seem to like it.
 
An updated version of the MIUI 8 beta based on Android M/6.0 was for some reason was put on the download page the other day. It has been taken down but some users managed to download it and get it working. Doesn't work too well when flashing using the update app but a clean install apparently works without issue. Hopefully we'll see it crop up again soon enough as apparently it works really well.

Apologies as I haven't read the entire thread but does anyone have any thoughts on the Xiaomi Mi5?

Need something to replace my aging 1st gen Moto G desperately but don't want a 5.5" phone. 5.1" is about the absolute max I would go. Unless Xiaomi have anything sub 5.1"?

Some places 4g now works on this network they have started to use the other bands

How does the Redmi 3 Pro compare to other handsets? Ive got an aging Moto G (1st Gen) and the Mrs has a Z1 Compact that she wants shut of. She wants an iPhone 6 to replace it but im trying to find something that is a lot cheaper but packs a good punch for the price.

Thanks for bringing the Redmi 3 Pro to my attention though. The Mi5 is an absolute beast of a handset on paper but costs a fair bit more than the Redmi 3 Pro which looks like it has a lot of things covered! Might investigate it a bit more.

What is the software like? Is it easy to get stock android running on it or does it use a specific ROM? My last foray into chinese electronics was with a Cube tablet a few years ago and whilst it worked to an extent it was very buggy and didn't offer a great user experience despite it being a pretty powerful unit!

Any more info on this? I'm going to be running a giffgaff sim for data/texts and Vodafone sim for calls in my new phone when it arrives. I live in a large city so get good HSPA which is fine, but if it's possible to get 4g then that's an added bonus, but not a deal-breaker.

If you get a global rom the software is great but it's MIUI which some people don't like, it is something you need to play with, I like it. EDIT. I have just checked on the MIUI website and there is no global rom at the moment so you might want to give it a miss.

If you go for the Mi5 then request Xiaomi to unlock your bootloader the same time you purchase it.. hopefully by the time the phone arrives you will have been granted permission.

Once unlocked i can recommend the xiaomi.eu roms.. running the latest weekly beta release of MIUI8 on mine and works great..

Forgive my ignorance but is there no way that stock android can be loaded on to the devices? Is MIUI just Xiaomi's version of say Samsungs version of Android that comes on Galaxy devices?

I tend to prefer the stock android experience, I find all the manufacturer loaded versions to be bloaty as anything and my last experience of a Chinese tablet has maybe given me a warped view of what the chinese handsets are like.
