Hi

I have a some what noob question.
I have a 2013 Audi A3 of which i have only had since Sept 2015. My service is due in september. I have been told that Audi stores the service records on the Audi computer system, so no service log book.
My question is, if i got my car at say KwikFit or somewhere, do they or able to inform audi of the service or am i allowed to do it with proof? Or do i have to get it done at Audi

Why would you service a 2013 Audi at Kwik Fit? The reduction in value from this act would nullify any saving.

Fair enough if it was a 2003 and worth little anyway but a Kwik Fit service on a 2013 Audi seems like a daft idea.

For the love of god do not use Kwik Fit, Halfords or any of those types of places as you will regret it, they are well known for monumental **** ups. Find a good independent if you do not want to pay the dealer prices.

That's not a bad a price at all actually, and having an Audi stamp in the book will always look better.

But expect a phone call saying you need brakes all round, wiper blades, tyres, and other additional work

I don't know why people always assume an oil service at a main dealer (for a run of the mill car anyway) is going to cost £500 or something. The prices are often pretty reasonable and they usually offer even cheaper service options for older cars.

But expect a phone call saying you need brakes all round, wiper blades, tyres, and other additional work

To which you just politely decline. It's not hard :p

Considering the numbers of vehicles out there that have only had one or two official stmps in the book I suspect that people are over concerned about the importance of the DSR for long term values.

Sure, the first owner may regard it as important,(Though not all by any means, many fleet buyers are either doing in-house servicing or subcontracting to independents. many fleet cars are not actually having their DSR's updated, much to the annoyance of the manufacturers) the second owner is less likely to particularly concerned. the third or beyond probably not at all. (Either as a buyer or a seller)

The important thing is that you keep a complete service history file of all receipts for work done.

Many (possibly most) Indies will not want to be bothered with the hassle of DSR's (It is expensive and time consuming, despite the fact that legally it should be free and easy) and if sufficient numbers choose not to become involved then the whole DSR thing might well (and hopefully) whither and die.

I'd go to Audi, they will check if there are any TSBs, Recalls or SW updates etc...
Just decide beforehand that you won't give the go-ahead for any additional work found in the healthcheck. Always have a time to think about it or go to an independant. If its 3 years old, can you combine with MOT? Then you get free Audi MOT insurance.

I've had 6 or 7 services done at an Audi main dealer and haven't once been asked about doing work that wasn't required. Audi also price match tyres so I get them done at a discount.

My services are £300 for 2 services (major and minor) and usually around £150 for tyres which is always within £10 of the cheapest I can find online once price matched with somewhere local.

Maybe my local dealer is just one of the better ones
