Allen's completed his move to Stoke:

Best of luck to him. Decent player but too many injuries meant he was never able to show his true worth. Had he been 6 inches taller I think Klopp would have given him more of a chance too.
And now Liverpool have signed Talisca. This is getting crazy, how many attacking players do we need for crying out loud. Defence Mr Klopp, defence !!

I don't think we have. You're not going off "reports in Portugal" are you?

With Smith leaving you'd hope that we've got a LB lined up but it seems not. The Echo are reporting that we've given up on Ben Chilwell having previously had a £7m bid rejected for him and there's nothing imminent on the LB front.
Yeah, was going off this http://www.express.co.uk/sport/foot...rs-Anderson-Talisca-20m-Done-Deal-Work-Permit

But I would be very happy if it wasnt true , we really dont need yet more midfielders

I'd be shocked if it was true. Portugese press make the tabloids over here look reliable. Every summer Liverpool or Utd are supposed to have all but signed some Portugese player only for it to turn out bs and I'm sure this will prove to be the case again.
I'd have kept Allen over Lucas.

Without looking at the needs of the team, I'd agree. We need a Lucas type far more than we need an Allen type midfielder though. Allen's a CM that can only play in a 4-3-3 and we've already got Henderson, Milner and now Wijnaldum that can play there. We need midfielders that can play in a 2 man midfield and Allen can't do that.

It's going to be interesting to see just how highly the club rate Grujic. He's looked really good in pre-season so far but I'm not sure how much that's to do with him possibly taking it more seriously than most, looking to impress.

As much as I remember, hasn't Lucas only really had a couple of decent seasons at Liverpool? Just after Mascherano left.

The 18 months from when Masch left to when Lucas done his knee, he was excellent. He picked up another lengthy injury straight after coming back from his ACL and he's never been the same since. He still does a job and if we aren't to sign another holding mid then I'd rather we kept him than kept Allen.

bentaleb and fazio too by the looks of it. got to bring the wage bill down on bit part players and invest in better

had to be done. i'd ship carroll and mason out too.

I understand bentaleb and mason. Carroll I think needs more of a chance; I think he has good vision and is excellent at distribution.

Pritchard is just such a head scratcher though. I can't imagine him being significantly worse than the French league chap

To me, neither Mascherano or Alonso were ever replaced at Liverpool.

True. One of many consequences of the shambles the club was at the time.

While I was a bit harsh on Masch at the time. He was an excellent holding player (and now an excellent holding player, and centre back) and Alonso had that touch of class about him from the start.

However; you do not go out and buy like for like replacements for players of that calibre, when you consider there is a cluster of elite level European footballers, replacing like for like is at best expensive.

You aim to pick up a younger player with talent and hope they can mature in to a similar player / similar level, but, like for like is difficult.

I mean, if Real Madrid lost Kros, there are few players that would come in and be near that quality. You either adapt the style / team or try and find someone similar you can develop.

Not easy with Alonso, not easy at all.

rumours in italy that Utd have relented and agreed to 145m euros (~£122m) incl agent fees, but its a dodgy journo (Tancredi Palmeri) so probably just bs
