Fury Nitro FPS Drops

Hi,

I am well confused.

Just changed from a 290X to a Fury Nitro, I have FreeSync enabled and on latest drivers

Loaded up BF4 and for a minute I was enjoying higher FPS at the same settings which is exactly what I wanted and then boom, FPS drops into the 40's and 50's with a noticeable stutter and continues to do this for the next hour every few minutes

Its almost as if FreeSync isnt working or the card is throttling, it hit 75C after 20 mins or so and I have a well cooled case

Used DDU and reinstalled, same problem. Anyone else had this issue and managed to sort it or do I have a dodgy card?

I have an 8350 @ 4.2GHZ - No issues with the 290X and the same CPU

Thanks

Not tried it without freesync, will have to try it tomorrow now

Not sure what throttle temp is

Man I'm annoyed I always seem to have these annoying problems

Before you try anything, turn "power efficiency" off in the "Global Settings" of the crimson radeon settings control panel. This should stop unintended clock throttling that occurs due to AMD's buggy new power saving algorithm.

The reason you are seeing this now and not with your 290X is because this algorithm is restricted to new cards only.

I think Furies start to throttle around 75C.

I've the Fury Tri-x o/c edition with a base clock of 1040 so it's similar to the Nitro with a base clock of 1050 in that respect and the stock fan profile speeds up at 75 degrees and stops the temperatures going beyond 78 degrees, It doesn't throttle either.

I use GPU-Z to monitor it and for me it stays at 1040 all the time with no dips unless I go into a game menu,
Before this I had an MSI 290x Gaming o/c edition which was a 94 degree throttling piece of junk (imo) and the difference has been night and day.

I haven't got Bf4 installed at the moment but it ran fine the last time I playd. It'll take a couple of hours to install and then I'll let you know how it's running for me. It's paired with a 4790k @ 4.5 but I don't think it's a cpu issue if it was fine with the 290x. Which drivers are you on? I have the latest.

That was a quick download, What do you want tested and what settings? I've just tried the campaign with both DX11 & Mantle (5 minutes on each api), I only have a 1080p screen so I did 1440p with DSR & have every graphic setting maxed. My fps was usually in the 60's or 70's sometimes better and sometimes there are dips but turning the fps counter off too see how it feels without that info and it's running smoothly.

What exactly do you want me to test?

Thanks mate, it's in the latest drivers. Can't use mantle to crashes on startup had to edit config to disable it

I'm running 1440p native res ultra settings 2 x msaa

I honestly think it's sorted though, I read the fury nitro runs at 75c under load so that's normal. I disabled power saving, clean install of drivers again and reinstalled my sound card as I relocated it and it all seems ok now

Went on a 64 man server this morning and the fps was around 90 with no violent drops like before but I only played for 10 mins, will have to test properly later

Fair enough, have fun.

It doesnt work at all in this case, for some reason it worked when I first installed the card and now BF4 crashes on launch with an Event relating to the Mantle DLL

The AMD driver notes state there is a known issue, work around use DX11!

Not complaining though, ran nice and smooth this morning and about to try a longer a longer session to rule out heat and throttling

Still doing it, gutted

No idea why it didnt do it this morning but after a few minutes the FPS started tanking again

I noticed in GPUZ the GPU Load was up and down, never a steady 100% any ideas?

Check out this whilest its running Heaven, its a stuttery mess!
