Hey chaps,

So I had some free time this afternoon so thought what the heck, I'll fill in a online skilled visa assessment on the website below:

After answering a few questions - I received the below:

So my question is, how hard would it be for me to actually move to AUS and start working? Let's say I have some cash saved up and nothing holding me back in the UK.

What would be the procedure / next steps? FYI, I have 5 years experience working in PR.

In terms of why, the weather is a big one - I HATE HATE HATE HATE the fact we get about a whole 10 days of summer a year. Seriously, what the fudge.

I also have a health issue which would make working in AUS a lot easier due to air-con being on a lot. If you want more info on that you can read here:

Pleased to see your still with us; on a totally (but sort of) related note, I'm looking at moving to North America / Scandinavia in the near future. Best of luck with this!

Have you looked into maybe just a Working Holiday visa to Australia?

You can get a one year visa fairly easily (And extend it to 2 years if you're prepared to do some rural/farm work), and it'll give you time to make sure you can settle in and that you like living there before actually doing everything required for a full visa.

Wow ..... ! Can't believe your still here. ;)

Depends what you want from life. If you want a more chilled, warm , sunny social life then it's definitely worth it. Got family out there and they wouldn't change it for anything.

I'd go if I could.

No but this sounds like a great option as I have not been before.

Do you need to have a job locked down before moving?

If you look at that graphic, both of the ones which you have passed require either 'state government sponsorship' or 'regional state government sponsorship' - I'm afraid you won't be getting that (at least not easily).

It's a nice idea, but it's a bit of a stretch making the decision to emigrate when you've not visited the country before. As suggested, take the 12 month WHV and do a few months in rural Oz to extend it to two years. You won't be working in an air conditioned office you'll be working in 40 degree+ heat picking fruit or fixing up someone's farm.

I loved Oz, but remember the cost of living is much greater than the UK so to live as well as one does here you need a good job. On a WHV it's unlikely you'll jump straight into a mid/high level PR role, plus you are restricted to only working six months out of 12 for any one employer.

I did it, I got a good job working in Brisbane through some of my connections, I got bored after five months though and went to Charleville in the outback. I loved rebuilding fences and helping out flooded farmers in the Queensland outback during a year out of my career.

Flying to a hot country to work in an office because it has aircon is a big decision. Most offices here in London are climate controlled and we don't then have the searing heat when we go out for lunch.

Check out NZ - 18month WHV, beautiful country, though it won't resolve your flashes of heat.

Don't need a job as far as I'm aware, as long as you have enough money to support yourself for a few months.

I recommend visiting BritishExpats.com. They have a decent Wiki with more information on visas, and they're a helpful bunch on the forums - They helped me along the way when I moved to Canada.

Fantastic; would love to move to Canada myself. Great link.

Don't use random third party sites. All of the information you need regarding your eligibility is on the Australian government website. Do not trust or use websites whose primary aim is to get you to purchase services from them.

http://www.border.gov.au/

The only website you need for determining your eligibility. Essentially you are going to need skills which are on the listed of roles they require which it seems you do not.

I moved to NZ which is kinda like a small province of Aus so I feel qualified to throw in my 2 cents.

How hard? Not very hard at all. Once you have the visa sorted, money will be your 2nd consideration. If you have enough of that for an initial start, it's rather easy imo.

I simply sold up and went to NZ on holiday. Applied for a work visa within a week of arriving and got it within a month. To be fair, I had a Kiwi girlfriend that went ahead and got us a flat before my arrival but essentially I could've easily gotten a hotel room for a month and took my sweet time finding a place. Anyway, once I received my work visa, I got a job within 2 days and .... profit??

My advice would be to make sure that visa is guaranteed before you go and take as much money as you can. Rather obvious I suppose.

It's generally not a good idea to emigrate to a country which you've never visited before. Unless you're talking about a longer term holiday, it's very risky.

I don't think you have the skills to stay for any meaningful amount of time and you should definitely look at the link Fox added above.
