Hi all,I've been racking my brains for about a week now on which GPU to get and I've finally nailed it to one of these. Before I start here,s some specs..
i5 4670k oc to 4.2 ghz
16gb of ddr3
Corsair 650w psu
U2715h 1440p monitor
I mostly play games Rottr Gta v,Witcher 3 etc..
My question is this guys..
The Msi 1070 is £450. The 1080 is £696,that's a £246 price difference
I can grab a i7 4790k for £110 off a mate.
If I got a fairly decent overclock on the 1070,and combined it with the i7 4790k would it be a good performer for 60 FPS on the above titles at ultra settings?
Or should I stick with my i5 and pay the extra difference for the 1080?
Do you guys think the near £250 price difference between the 2 above cards is worth it?
Thanks to all who read and hopefully advise me on my decision ..its proper pickling my noggin lads :D
Cheers Adger

I'd get the 1070, if it isn't up to standards, return it and get a 1080 :D

I believe the 1070 ought to be enough though!

Assuming it's a newer PSU, I don't think it's necessary to upgrade.

And finally, as for the CPU, the games you listed wouldn't really benefit from the addition logical cores the i7 offers

I think you'd be wasting money either way:
No need for a new CPU if only for games.
No need to spend on a MSI 1070 when Palit and Zotac offer better cards for less money.

Would just spend 410 or less on Palit SuperJetstream or Zotac Amp! and call it a day.

Hi guys thanks..my psu is a corsair TX model,it's been running my R9 390 fine.
Il check the palit, but the Zotac will not go anywhere near my case razorpakk
Thanks guys

To be honest the extra grunt of the 1080 would be wasted on most games because you have a 60Hz 1440p monitor. If you were at 144Hz then I would consider a 1080. The 1070 is able to maintan 60fps at 1440p in the majority of games, especially if you're willing to OC.

Saying that it's equally as pointless upgrading your CPU from i5 to i7 on a 60Hz monitor. It would help your minimums if you had 144Hz but won't do much for your current setup. If you want to use the hyperthreading benefits for CPU intensive encoding and such then that's fine.

Edit: Noticed how cheap the i7 upgrade is, at that price it would be rude not to.

So if I was to consider a Gsync in say 6-12 months time you,d go for a 1080 Ranxzy ? Cheers mate

Ah, that's fair enough. It's a massive card that one!

EDIT: AMP is 30cm long (SOURCE)

The length I'd probably get away with Cleeecooo,it's the height of the bloody thing, anything much over 140mm and I'd struggle..but il open my system up again in a minute and double check ,thanks for the recommendation mate

Don't think you should think that far, by then you might just be able to sell your 1070 and buy something new, whatever a 1080 can, a 1070 can too (I mean it's less than 20% performance for a lot more money).

Actually after just looking..the Palit cards look like they'd fit comfortably.
Does anyone own one? Preferably a 1080 ?
I'd love your thoughts guys
