di maria didn't flop, he was badly managed. at times, he was head and shoulders above any other united player.

pogba was badly managed and now look what's ( maybe ) happening.

Higuain has a pretty bad rep for missing guilt edge chances in big games, you could compare him to Gomez who in his prime scored plenty in domestic games but underperformed in the biggies.

.

He flopped completely, he wasn't ready for the competitiveness of the EPL

His attitude stank most of the year capped by being sent off needlessly in the FACup against Arsenal

There was a bit of mis-management also but the player imo never wanted to apply himself after Nov-Dec

He also had a huge attitude 4 years ago (and wanted wages to go along with that) for someone who hadn't even played
Maybe the loss of Euros may take him down a peg or two, he needs it

Pogba was such an excellent player; even at a young age. Was it not Pirlo that said he had no idea why Manchester United let him go after a couple of training sessions?

He wanted to play; felt he was good enough for a poor Manchester United midfield, was never given the chance, became unhappy, club let him go. In the process of becoming unhappy and refusing to sign a new contract the club/Management made him out to be a bad guy and fans totally supported the club/management.

so badly managed. yeh?

some players are unmanageable at a certain level i don't believe di maria is one of them. how's he doing now?

Meh, as much as it pains me to say it. I'm finding myself in agreement with cm1179; to an extent anyway. I agree he was mismanaged, but I don't entirely agree that it was the sole reason. Di Maria's head was not 'right', but I agree with the overall sentiment.

Mismanaged, somewhere he did not necessarily want to be.

I am far from an expert in football but I don't get the fee involved in that transfer. He's 28, it's an Italian transfer (aren't they quite wise and prude spenders) plus they haven't finalised Pogba! Advantage Utd?

Napoli are their biggest rivals currently, since getting shot of Benitez the squad is performing as it should, challenging for the title. Benitez took a CL team out of the CL and the new manager had them 19 points up on the previous season. though there were still 9 points behind Juve, that incredible run they went on won't always be repeatable and securing the best striker in the league as well as taking him away from your only real competition nearly assures them winning the title for another 2-3 years.

As such it's worth a lot, that is also why a lot of deals between direct CL rivals or within the same league are often more expensive. You are both buying a great(you hope) player but also taking away a great player from your opposition so it's a double blow.

How much would Aguero be worth to Chelsea? They could buy lets say, Aubameyang from Dortmund and strengthen their team, but it wouldn't weaken City. Buying Aguero would do both, it's worth more, it's a big hit and reduction in competitiveness of City.

It's also why Napoli wanted more from Juve than from other teams, because they know they'll not only be losing their best striker but strengthening their toughest competition.

La Stampa reporting that Juve have accepted €115m/£96m bid for Pogba, €100m + €15m agent fee, and have only to agree the payment structure now ie split over x years or all at once.

£96m is a lot of money but a far cry from the £120m+ that was being reported at times until now.

Either that or they paid his release clause :p

you mean in a team that doesnt even need to try at 90% week in week out to win their national league with ease........yeah he is doing well

You can believe what you like, but he was awful (mainly by his own doing, or not) in England

Mismanaged, somewhere he did not necessarily want to be.

That was certainly part of it , no doubt - but then he shouldnt really have agreed to the deal in the first place, so imo thats squarely on his shoulders.
He should have made the best of it, and apart from amybe a handful of games - he blatantly wasnt interested for majority of the season.

He then went to Juve and was instantly good. Maybe it was reasonable self-belief and understanding of his value, rather than an unreasonable ego...

In a MUCH weaker league he did very well (and then went on from there)

With potentially much better quality players (for the respective league in any case) in areas around him to help if need be.

For right or wrong SAF was trying to win his last league title, maybe he thought he couldnt afford an inexperienced player rght in CM at that point (rightly or wrongly)

No "reasonable" self belief comes after you have proven what you can do, otherwise its just ego.

Just saw that, lets see if anyone else verifies it - supposedly the payment schedule is due to be arranged today or tomorrow.

Not interested any more, it's turned into a farce. As others have said, possibly best avoiding more business with raiola.

I'm tired of it now, but it does seem likely.

All of the Italian press are adamant it's close to happening, Allegri and Marotta have more or less confirmed negotiations, and neither club nor Raiola will want to scupper the deal.

This is the transfer saga of the summer.

Roll on the first game of the season, I'm bored of weekends with no Football to watch.

Unless ZZ comes in with a counter offer good enough for Juve.....

Have to admit Im actually looking forward to the Olympics more than the first few weeks of the EPL season (and then once that settles down there is the Int break 31st Aug/ 1st Sep) so the EPL wont really start imo until mid sep, with all the players back etc
