Such an excellent finisher that he lost Argentina a World Cup and Copa America in the space of a year?
di maria didn't flop, he was badly managed. at times, he was head and shoulders above any other united player.
.
He also had a huge attitude 4 years ago (and wanted wages to go along with that) for someone who hadn't even played.
pogba was badly managed and now look what's ( maybe ) happening.
He flopped completely, he wasn't ready for the competitiveness of the EPL
His attitude stank most of the year capped by being sent off needlessly in the FACup against Arsenal
There was a bit of mis-management also but the player imo never wanted to apply himself after Nov-Dec
I am far from an expert in football but I don't get the fee involved in that transfer. He's 28, it's an Italian transfer (aren't they quite wise and prude spenders) plus they haven't finalised Pogba! Advantage Utd?
Napoli are their biggest rivals currently, since getting shot of Benitez the squad is performing as it should, challenging for the title. Benitez took a CL team out of the CL and the new manager had them 19 points up on the previous season. though there were still 9 points behind Juve, that incredible run they went on won't always be repeatable and securing the best striker in the league as well as taking him away from your only real competition nearly assures them winning the title for another 2-3 years.
As such it's worth a lot, that is also why a lot of deals between direct CL rivals or within the same league are often more expensive. You are both buying a great(you hope) player but also taking away a great player from your opposition so it's a double blow.
How much would Aguero be worth to Chelsea? They could buy lets say, Aubameyang from Dortmund and strengthen their team, but it wouldn't weaken City. Buying Aguero would do both, it's worth more, it's a big hit and reduction in competitiveness of City.
It's also why Napoli wanted more from Juve than from other teams, because they know they'll not only be losing their best striker but strengthening their toughest competition.
some players are unmanageable at a certain level i don't believe di maria is one of them. how's he doing now?
Mismanaged, somewhere he did not necessarily want to be.
He then went to Juve and was instantly good. Maybe it was reasonable self-belief and understanding of his value, rather than an unreasonable ego...
La Stampa reporting that Juve have accepted €115m/£96m bid for Pogba, €100m + €15m agent fee, and have only to agree the payment structure now ie split over x years or all at once.
£96m is a lot of money but a far cry from the £120m+ that was being reported at times until now.
I'm tired of it now, but it does seem likely.
All of the Italian press are adamant it's close to happening, Allegri and Marotta have more or less confirmed negotiations, and neither club nor Raiola will want to scupper the deal.
Roll on the first game of the season, I'm bored of weekends with no Football to watch.
