Preacher should've been arrested, your thoughts?

Should have been detained and spoken to privately rather than giving him an audience but no way to really do that without causing a fuss.

I know people have a right to free speech and all but these guys do my head in when I go to Birmingham. Playing the prayers through loud speakers, shouting in the street and just generally being annoying.

On the way back to the car park there is usually a litle old lady handing out christian (maybe jehovas witness) leaflets but at least she does it quietly. :D

A shouty idiot on a street corner? How is this even news? Oh wait, a muslim.

You'll see far worse on a weekend night if you ever go out OP.

I've seen it plenty of times on TV where a guy was arrested or taken aside when he became agitated and in the cops face...

There needs to be a realistic threat or likelihood of violence/harm.

This guy was simply being very assertive. Was never any appearance of aggression beyond a strong delivery.

No you can't, hate crime is a thing, racism is a thing.

We're not America.

Sounds like a member of the public reported him for no obvious reason and the police had no reason to arrest/charge him with anything.

You go and shout/protest in the street the police can arrest you with the catch-all Breach of the Peace. They only need to claim you were alarming others and you are charged.

I love the hypocrisy, he brings up 'Freedom of Speech' and then he says 'This is a free Country and we can speak freely in Public'. That's right! Unless of course it dares to criticise his particular Religion.....

Well we've got a local schizophrenic in the town I work, who never gets arrested and he shouts in people's faces (Inc people with young kids), jumps in front of cars etc.

He needs mental health care though not locking up.

There was a good episode of 999: What's Your Emergency? on last night about the burden put on emergency services due to mental health issues. The police are unfortunately the people called first and foremost yet worst placed to actually provide any sort of real care.

Strange for him to be ranting on about being in a free country with freedom of speech yet the message he is preaching would take that away from people.

out of order yes. arrestable offence most likely not.

In the 1980 I would have thought the second the guy started to tell them to catch rapists like "real criminals" line would have resulted very differently, but police are very accountable today and like shown its being recorded so maybe someone was hoping for a reaction which the police officer did well to avoid.

I wish preaching in public spaces wasn't allowed myself after hearing a Christian preacher screaming I was going to hell unless I let Jesus save me. I had to push past the idiot as he scream in my face holding his bible like a weapon and this was the only time I've been to Swindon town centre (what a dump) I would prefer that I could walk down the street without that but meh freedom of speech has to be accepted.

I remember getting stuck next to a Christian preacher at a bus stop in Manchester, kept screaming at us how we are all going to burn in hell and need to accept "Da Lord".

I thought having to use the bus would be seen as punishment enough for whatever misdeeds I've done to the "almighty" :D

All this preaching malarkey is just an early refer a friend scheme gone wrong.

Had a look at the DM website, tried to read article, got distracted by boobs.

It's an awful place to find 'news' and I felt dirty for even linking to the site :(

But hey, at least we can find out what the Kardashians are doing with their worthwhile 'celebrity' status!!

Am I missing something here, he was arrested?

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/art...reams-not-terrorists-not-suicide-bombers.html

Says he was arrested the next day and charged with 2 public order offences? Why is this even news worthy, is it just because he's a Muslim?

Yep because anything that makes Islam or Muslims look bad is front page news these days. Also helps with the rising hatred of Muslims as well, personally I would have just arrested him there and then for being an absolute **** really.

Just saw this video and it doesn't matter if he's a christian, muslim, catholic or any other, he should've been arrested for breaching the peace at least!

We should all be treated equally

Grade 1 ********, who does he think he is.

What about the cheering at the end from some of the crowd aslo? It was as if he had won a battle?

I don't care what had gone on before hand, the way he acted especially to the police officer then he should have been arrested, anyone else would have been arrested.

police probably saw the bigger picture.

arrest a cleric in the street then the islamic community would kick off big time.

the police don't need that.

It still shouldn't happen. The police should not be in fear of arresting anyone, at all.

Sounds like a member of the public reported him for no obvious reason and the police had no reason to arrest/charge him with anything.

Really, so you think speaking to the police like that is acceptable? If you do then there is something wrong with you.

One thing at-least, another one's been uncovered.
