Ford Edge - Thoughts/Deals?

Surely an X3 should be the Kuga equivalent though? And the X5 closer to the Edge equivalent, if it's based on the Mondeo. Engines aside of course.

We have one in at work. I've had a good poke around it, looks to be a very nice car. In terms of build quality from the feel of the doors and interior etc, I'd say it's easy on par with the German rivals. Ford have upped their game a lot. Still a lot of money but a nice car for sure.

Indeed

Ford build quality is spot on these days. Current Mondeo is 3db quieter at motorway speeds than a 3 series.

Looks a lovely car and remember seeing a few in the US. I just can't see them selling in volume when a decent spec one is £35k+. That's getting into F-Pace territory. A good proportion of SUV buyers are very image conscious and it will still be perceived as "a Ford".

I can see some significant discounts being offered longer term on these on top of the current £2k-£3k plus 0.9% APR.

Crikey these are expensive! Can pick up an X3 for the same money no problems.

an x3 is tiny in comparison, that's like comparing a 3 series to a Mondeo they are not the same bracket!

I wanted to hate it but have to say it's a pretty good looking car Ford seem to be getting a lot of things right with the new global vehicles even if it has killed the Falcon!

On another note is really annoys me when manufacturers launch a car and then change the engine lineup or infotainment system within the first year.

The F10/11 BMWs launched with a 242bhp 3.0 diesel engine and within a year they had replaced it with a more refined 258bhp engine.

Saw one of these in the dealership the other day when I was waiting for the Mrs Kuga to be serviced. Looked nice. Blooming big though! Basically a 4x4 mondeo?

Had one as a hire car when we toured the canadian rockies - was a nice drive considering, huge amount of space, comfy, decent tech. Not too bad really.

wife has told me i'm buying her one next year to replace her kuga.

have to say they do look rather nice,

lots of Mondeo parts to be found which is no bad thing, although I notice you cant order it with sync 3 yet, just the old sync2 infotainment system i'd personally hang fire as the later version is far superior.

bloody massive though, our local ford dealer had one parked up next to a focus and it was almost comical the size difference.

theres also a newer version of the 210bhp bi turbo diesel lump in the offing with a few tweaks taking it up to 240 horses. so with that and the infotainment i'd be tempted to hang fire for a few months

The 240ps engine and the Sync 3 - Any idea when they are deploying that in the Edge?

We recently started looking for our next car and was considering the following:

Ford Edge
BMW X3
Audi Q5
VW Tiguan
Merc GLC.

We test drove a Edge titanium Auto which right away felt really spacious inside and very planted on the road. During our test drive there was a really big storm with heavy rain. My wife is not the most confident drivers in bad weather but the edge just felt solid and she drove around like it was a sunny day, not a care in the world. One thing I really dont like is the lower part of the center console. It just looks terrible but its something I can live with I think.

We also test drove the Merc GLC and although the interior was great it seemed to sit you quite low to the road and inside the cabin space felt small. I didn't feel it was worth the premium.

The new Tiguan interior looks horrid imo so thats a no no and a decent spec Q5 or X3 is really out of my price range. Probably going to order either a Edge titanium or sport in a few months when the sync 3 and new engine is available.

I tried one out a while back, as i was considering a S max Vignale (dont ask!). And yes its big and reasonably equipped, it just just didnt feel premium, which is what the price tag suggests imo.

Its a high end ford thats financial suicide to buy new, but will make an excellent secondhand buy. Id definately have it over the cheap ass tiguan and it felt nicer than a CRV and the korean offerings. I hope it does well, and i hope they bring out a seven seat variant, which iirc they do in the states??
