What sort of spec is he going to be using? 1000W is unnecessary unless you are going to use SLI/Crossfire. It isn't a bad PSU by any means though.

I'd rather get a decent 550W-650W unit if it's only to have a single GPU. You'll save some money as well.

He is going the x99 route and is looking to SLI
 
Here's a review of the FD Newton R3 1000w. The thing that let's it down for me is that it's not fully modular and for the price it really should be.

If he really wants a Platinum psu then the XFX XTS 1000w is platinum, fully modular and is made by Seasonic. Review here.
 
Nonsense. I have seen plenty of threads with people having Seasonic psu's fail and there's a new thread on here today that someone had a G series fail at 18 months. Seasonic are overpriced and overhyped. They have built some poor units in the past. I would put the EVGA (Superflower built units) and Superflower units ahead of Seasonic these days.
