Best graphics card for £230?

Hey guys, whats the best graphics card i could get for £230?

My specs are:

AMD A8-7670K 4.2GHz Quad Core CPu

Gigabyte F2A78M-HD2 AMD Socket FM2+ Motherboard

2x Kingston HyperX Fury 8GB DDR3 Ram

1TB SEAGATE BARACUDA SATA3 7200RPM 64MB Cache Hard Drive

CX600W Corsair PSU

24X DVD-RW Optical Drive

Could you not drop your budget down to around £180 and go for a second hand card or save a little get a 4gb rx 480 and a 128gb SSD as your boot drive that'll be the best upgrade for your current system

That's a nice price! And considering the low wattage of the 1060 a blower style would do great!! Really wish they didn't get rid of the sli in these cards for £450 they would have offered fantastic performance

Unfortunately, that's the exact reason why there isn't SLI for 1060's - as they are quite level with a 1080 but for way loss money.

I am actually still considering this as an option, especially if Raja Koduri gets the troops into action and onboard for better mGPU/CF driver performance in the future.....and I think that if the rumours are true about a dual P10 chip on the 490 then that is what they will do.

2xRX480 is just under 1080 performance and over 1070 performance and then you have DX12, Async and Vulkan on top of that.

The future could get very interesting especially with Nvidia backing off from Multi GPU support. But AMD need to put the hard graft into mGPU/CF support for that to work.

The DX12 / Vulcan MGPU stuff will fall mainly into the hands of the developers though i feel, and wouldnt suprise me for Nvidia to pay the devs to not bother with it hahah (im going to get a lot of angry nvidia fans on my case for that comment)

Seriously though, if we can get reliable MGPU support for AMD cards, it will be a no brainer to buy 2 x 480 or 2 x 1060.. oh wait.... just 2 x 480 ;)

Multi-GPU in DX11 is getting inherently more difficult. It's not that AMD and Nvidia suddenly stopped caring about it and that's why support levels have dropped, it's that the rendering complexity is increasing dramatically to the point that driver-based multi-GPU support is very problematic. And on the flipside, DX12/Vulkan multi-GPU support is also very difficult because it largely relies on the developer implementing it by hand.

I really, really wouldn't recommend anybody go investing in dual GPU setups at this time. Gibbo is of course going to suggest it's worth it because it's more product they can sell off, but as a consumer, I really cant imagine it's going to be worth it. Maybe you'll get 1080-like performance in some titles, but how many exactly? What percentage of titles are you willing to deal with either:

a) Not getting the 'maximum' level of performance potential

b) Having no support whatsoever

c) Having delayed support

d) Having noticeable frametiming issues

Or some combination of?

Because I can pretty much guarantee it's going to be a significant percentage.

Personally, my first choice would be the 1060, however, I don't particularly like the design of the two Nvidia 'within price range' models. Thus, I'd probably end up going for the Sapphire or Gigabyte versions (with a preference for the Sapphire one). If you need the extra memory, then there are Powercolor / XFX cards available, though for me the look of a card is relevant as it's still part of what I'm buying (whether I can see it or not), and unfortunately I just can't take to the base AMD design here: it reminds me of games like battleships. Quite tacky looking. The Sapphire model, imo, is by far the most attractive bit of kit on sale here.

Ssd was my best upgrade I've ever had on a pc could never be with out now where as I could be without my 980 Ti as I wouldn't mind going from 4k to 1080p and a 1060 if I REALLY had too though I'd never go without a ssd bit only the boot time is much quicker the overall responsiveness if the pc is a lot quicker as well

Agreed. I think I'd find it very difficult to pull the trigger on a HD now, though saying that, I remember getting close to ordering one a little while back. Phew! :)
