Can they track you back to UK or is it still a case of having impunity in europe unless stopped by plod? Was flashed by a gatso in Lithuania in a UK car.

Thanks, you really do not realise how easy we have it here. Brightly painted boxes with plenty of signage. This was just a grey box in the middle of no where!

Trust me, I do realise! The ones in France are often tiny little grey boxes hidden behind trees / cliffs etc. They even have one in a trailer around here which they move around and hide behind parked trucks and vans so you don't see it until it flashes. I drive for a living, and it's rare a week goes by without me or one of my colleagues getting flashed. Thankfully none of the cars I drive are French registered so both my licence and wallet have remained intact. :p

It is shared. But no one seems to bother for speeding offences etc, probably way to much hassle. Theres tonnes of outstanding fines on foreign cars in London that never get chased (or paid).

I'm not even sure the cameras can even read non-native plates a lot of the time.

or fined, information is shared across Europe now and all EU countries can pursue a fine and have same access to driver details as UK Police etc.

Was it a rental or your own?

My own car. As far as I am aware from google the UK opted out of information sharing but have to comply by May 2017. Only thing is I am not sure how much over the limit I was. I think I was in a 90km limit which would be no problem fine wise but if it wasn't......

No, they cannot unless it was a rental. After May 2017 they MAY be able to, but that's looking less and less likely.

Yeah thats why I was asking if rental and had the can

More likely I would say after May, being in the EU gave us the opt out and given every EU country HAS to share now it will be bundled into any trade/movement/schengen deal for sure!

You said they "can" pursue the fine as they have the same access to driver details as UK police. This is not true - the reason fines get sent to you when you rent a car is because you've willingly surrendered address and licence details to the hire company. It actually entirely bypasses the DVLA and UK police: the foreign police simply demand the address of the driver from the rental company and post them the fine (which is always a fine, no points etc)

With regards to what will happen after May 2017, motoring solicitors seem to disagree with you. Personally I suspect that if it is implemented, it will be much like the early days private parking tickets, where they're extremely tricky to enforce. We'll see I guess!
