I swear I must have done something wrong in a previous life....

Back storey. The Mrs has a hair salon (which is a ground floor unit), upstairs was becoming available and her sister wanted to start a beauticians, we'll not go into details but this cost a fair amount which we're trying to get this back. This was 3 years ago.

Now said Sister decides that she no longer wants to be a beautician, and go into "caring".

So Mrs gets all utility's transferred over to her business, this is where British Gas come in. Completely getting the address wrong, and now this little beauty.

BG's first response to the Mrs's was "this is a correct bill you have to pay" and soon turned into "ohh yeah, we'll call you back"

So next port of action guys?

Cancel direct debit?
Call the Sun newspaper?
Poo through letterbox?

Did you check if the readings are correct?

If it's a simple case of incorrect readings then it isn't exactly too difficult to resolve.

£10k charge in 1 month seems something is badly wrong as far as readings are concerned.

Tbh I'm surprised the plod haven't kicked the door in as your mrs is clearly cultivating a substantial cannabis crop, expect to get your collar felt at any moment op!. :p

WOW! Surprised somebody in the office didn't query that.

It's probably all automated, system churns out bill, if it goes unpaid it goes to debt collection, there's probably no/very little human interaction unless you contest it.

That's just how utility companies operate.

I had a right do with SSE, they changed my meter to a more modern one and misread the final reading, said I owed them about 2k, even though I religiously submitted quarterly readings after getting inflated estimations. I refused to pay them at all for the following year so I probably owe them somewhere in the region of a grand, but they want about 3k and won't budge.

They just don't want to know, they've said as much, so I've just walked away from the whole thing.

State you want to complain and approach the ombudsman. Be awkward. They will ask for readings. State you want everything in writing to the complaint handler to make it more time consuming for them. You will find its resolved in no time.
