Good old British Gas

Heisenberg? More like Eichmann with a gas bill like that.

Oooph!

Back on subject, don't be so sure they will cooperate, I've insisted all coms are written, by letter or email, and they basically said to me, we won't discuss it further, it's with debt collection. So I stated in writing that the account is in dispute, and we are at deadlock.
I've bounced back the debt collectors saying the account is disputed, and since moved house.

They emailed me back saying they won't engage with me further .. I don't know how they plan to reach an agreement if they refuse to communicate..

British gas got every single thing wrong with my bills, despite me submitting readings - they ended up calling me telling them I owed them £750... after some ooing and ahh'ing, it turned out they owed me about £3,... seriously one of the most incompetent companies you can deal with..

Hope it gets sorted out - I'm sure the local papers would love to see that bill :)

Plot twist: Sister in-law was using the premises to grow weed hence the large bill.

Could a person spend £9000 a month on electricity even if they were growing cannabis? Wouldn't that make it unprofitable anyway? How long does it take to grow and how much does it sell for? I'm almost curious enough to look these things up.

Something tells me that if they are growing cannabis they are probably not going to pay their gas/electric bill...

Purely tongue in cheek, but...

Don't they normally bypass the meter anyway? :)

hmmm they try and bypass or flip the meter or spur off the neighbours..... OP needs to check the neighbours aren't growing weed and syphoning from his Mrs!

If they are, poo through letter box......

Ah British Gas a company that makes BT's customer Service look positively benign.
I have found, in the past when I was with them and having to sort out one of there many 'errors was to email the Chief Executive and things do seem to move quite quickly to resolve the issue after that course, I have even managed some compensation for my time and effort to sort out what was usually a glaring mistake by BT which was then compounded by their customer service whom seem to work to script and common sense has no part to play.

About 5 years back, a house two doors down was rented to a DSS couple. Right pair they were. One day me and the next door neighbour talked about them not being around for about a month. We decided to jump the fence and check as council tenants are notorious for moonlighting. Sure enough they had gone. The place was a tip and in the kitchen there were bundles of plant pots which had obviously been used. Their gas meter was on the jump too. They had taken all the expensive lighting with them and their was some sort of DIY air filter box in the corner by the window. The place also stank of gear. We informed the owner, who we know, and he came down with the police. They agreed it had been used as a cannabis farm, but said it wouldn't be followed up as it was not considered a priority.

British Gas are the biggest bunch of clowns on the planet, closely followed by British Telecom.

Back in the days when they had a monopoly, British Gas have managed to screw up our bill twice: a) when we bought our first flat and b) moved house three years later.

We last moved house in 1997 and dutifully phoned British Telecom when we moved in. They replied by letter, telling us our new phone number, which we passed on to family, friends, work etc in all good faith. Sadly, they wrote to us a week later and the week after that, on each occasion giving us a different phone number. At that point I told them to stuff it and went with Cambridge Cable, later to become NTL and then Virgin Media.

We switched to BT at work late last year and it's been an unmitigated disaster - we literally cannot go a month without the phones going down for some reason ... just this morning, they came back up, having been down for the last two-and-a-half days.

I've vowed that neither BG or BT will ever get another penny out of me as long as I live - both are the very definition of incompetence, huge corporate edifices creaking under their own weight.

Same as a lot of people about Gritish Bas.

Had a bill £600+ for 6months gas only. I estimated a tiny usage from kitchen cooker and maybe 30mins warm the bath water.

Second time put a bit of money on card and swallowed the lot. More money. Paid I think over £100 in 2 days or so. Was assured it was not in someone else's account. Got a final bill, yup was paying off someone else's bill and BG refused to refund. Lovely.
