Apparently they're all going to be bought up for monster Ethereum mining rigs, so there won't be any left for the likes of us anyhow.

Don't count on it. Nvidia is getting better and more experienced at nerfing their cards for lower model releases...just look at the performance gap between the 970 and 980 vs 1070 and 1080; the 1080Ti could well be a fairly large margin behind the new Titan.

Looking at the WX4100 launch articles it seems it has the full 1024 shader Polaris 11 GPU - the RX460 has 2 CUs deactivated meaning it has 896 shaders.

For a while now, it has always been the *next* big thing that will save AMD.

And when it comes, and turns out to be pretty average, or disappointing even, then we look to the next thing...

First it was Bulldozer, now it's Zen.

Or it was Fiji, then Polaris, now Vega. Always the next one will be the good one. The one where AMD really hits the ball out of the park.

Frankly AMD are on life-support. We all know that if Zen isn't their next Athlon-64 moment, the game is up.

I fear this is true, people like myself who are casual 1080 gamers buy AMD because of the cost/performance. Yes the polaris was a bit meh and i admit i was completely sucked into the hype. And the fact it seems to be taking a lifetime to get their AIB cards out which is incredibly frustrating.

pretty much this, the biggest flop imo was the FURY X with all the hype that surrounded that card and it being the "titan x killer" heck it couldn't even beat a shaved 980 Ti

The best thing to do is just to expect **** and if it is then you're not surprised or disappointed and if AMD bring something out that exceeds your expectations then happy days!

There's no reference model for these, though manufacturers can still re-use the 480 cooler like Sapphire are doing.
