Emirates Boeing 777-300 crash-landed at Dubai International Airport

I was basing it on the images of BA38 at Heathrow:

You can see extensive damage to the wing there - to me, that looks like the landing gear struts have gone up and pierced the tanks.

Ahh that bit thats damsged looks like its all falsework behind the wing box.

Not the actual tank area

Just seen a video on BBC News website.

From inside the plane just after it had crashed.

People standing up and going through the overhead lockers looking for there hand luggage and blocking the aisles... shockingly stupid people about.

Yeah I saw that video too. What the hell is going through some people's minds is beyond me. 'ah the planes on fire and probably about to explode, everyone's trying to scramble to the exit, no wait! I must get my bag!!!!!'

Imbeciles.

Apparently it's a common reaction to an unfamiliar situation. People fall back on familiar behaviours

Seems to be a recent trend and a stupid one at that. People really think they are invincible these days. I swear if someone tried that in front of me in that situation they are getting pushed out the way.

I saw that and my first reaction to it was as above - how can people be so stupid. Chatting to a mate about it last night (who just happens to be a clinical psychologist), she was telling me that people do weird things when they're terrified, like pretend everything is fine and go through what they'd normally do.

I guess that must be an element.

I hate flying for all kinds of reasons, but I can't be the only one who in my head plans for such things...? I also know where the exits are front & back, and on both sides, and count seats etc. so I would know which way to go etc. Paranoia I guess.

Technology and training - the slightest increase in safety performance has such major effects doesn't it. You couldn't imagine the same result in a plane in the 80s for example.

Yeah. I saw that video this morning and the mind boggles. Emergency anounced, check. Crash landed, check. Plane on fire, check. Now wait a minute whilst I hunt through the locker for my hand luggage. Wtf?!

I'm sure shock comes into it, but it's apparent that passengers need more education on this. I'm sure if those people look back to the remnants of the plane now they'd also be thinking "what the heck was I doing". You'd hope...

The flight originated from India, so there you have it :p

You would hope...probably more likely celebrating the fact that they got their few 'valuables' off the plane though. Maybe I am just too cynical though :p

I always think of these events when they mention this issue during the safety briefing...people just ignore it :(

RIP to the Emirati firefighter that lost his life saving the passengers :(

Sad to hear of any fatality.
