I know what you're all going to say...

I sold an iPhone 4 on eBay back in June and I sent it by Royal Mail Special Delivery. All delivered and have proof of delivery.

Have received a message from eBay today saying the buyer has opened a case about the item not being received. However, the comments don't seem to agree with what they've claimed for.

After much trouble and abuse from your company and sending the phone back twice for repairs and you then saying you would replace but now saying no I want a refund

The seller has never contacted me about anything.

Since the claim itself is about the item not being received, I've supplied the tracking number and said the item has been delivered. That should be it, right?

I try not to use eBay anymore due to all the horror stories but this phone was so old it was never going to be sold any other way.

Hey,

I have not sold anything on ebay since I sold my laptop and the buyer claimed his monies back... buy stuff on it all the time though :)

If they say they have already sent it back twice for repair then they should also have raised a dispute at the time, so Ebay would be aware of these issues.

if as you say it sounds like they are trying to scam, I take it you used a tracked and signed for service so you should have a digital signature from the postal service you can use for the dispute also.

It's not something innocent like they have contacted you by mistake?

It's more than possible they have bought many phones and one has gone wrong.

As long as you have proof that they have received the handset (signature) and that no ebay messages of them contacting you have come in (eBay will know if you have even if you deleted some lol)...

Then y'all good!

As you've used Special Delivery you'll be fine as if the item really wasn't delivered to them you can claim on RM's insurance.

Have you checked on RM's website to see if a signature is recorded?

Well if its not working buyers have 6 months to claim from the seller. You do realise all sellers on Ebay automatically give 6 months warranty on items sold even private sellers?

I know somebody who sold a brand new lawnmower privately. 5 months later Ebay ruled in buyers favour when he claimed it was faulty.

When he got it back it had clearly being used to mow the grass all summer.

I sold something on Ebay once, a GTX285 when I decided Sli wasn't worth the hassle at the time. Seller claimed the money back, Paypal sided with them and I've never used Ebay since other than the odd buying.

Sounds like the guy opened a case by mistake on your item instead of another. but as long as you have tracking details, upload them to the case and eBay will side with you. Sounds to me like a misunderstanding and opened a case under the wrong item.

Sold my wifes iPhone 6 on eBay. Never again as I got an email 1 month later saying she broke the screen and wanted a repair.

Politely explained I am not a shop and to go to Apple direct. Even after that she kept badgering me for weeks after.

Buy stuff all the time as the disputes work heavily in buyers favour.

Same here. I buy on ebay, sell elsewhere.

You were lucky she didnt claim via Ebay on that phone.

After reading all the ebay threads on here I hoped my claim for a faulty phone would be easy.

Phone arrived, looked in great condition and left feedback saying just that. Looks good.

Couple of days later inserted a mem card and it wasn't recognised. Informed the buyer and said I'll order another brand and try. New card arrived a few days later which also wasn't recognised.

Asked buyer for a refund which was refused. Opened dispute with ebay and they sided with buyer as I had left positive feedback.

Called ebay the following day and the person on the phone agreed I should have been refunded but as they had already decided in the seller's favour they couldn't ask him to refund me. So ebay refunded me the full amount and let me keep the phone which I sold on Gumtree :)
