Windows 10 Anniversary Update

Does anybody know how to get the different ISO's for Home and Pro?

EDIT - Nevermind it turns out the ISO I got has every version in by default which is good to know :)

Still no update here, just keeps spamming me with windows defender definition updates instead.

In no rush, so I'll just carry on waiting for it to come through Windows update.

Do it manually from here https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/software-download/windows10, plenty of options there ie upgrade, clean install, USB or ISO of 10.

Win10 USB media creation tool works fine for 10 upgrade, did that on my brothers 10 PC to latest version of 10.

Just tried installing the update on my home PC after my work PC updated fine earlier today and it BSOD in the middle with something about my usb drivers causing a issue. Had to reboot via power switch to get it to roll back the update and everything's working ok again.

Doesn't fill me with confidence to try installing it again.

This seems scary, need to appraise it before I update to anniversary on dual boot 7/10 disk
(although reported with linux dual it is unclear if it might also impact a dual 7/10 )

Interesting, I lost an entire 1tb NTFS partition on a non-system disk, I'm currently using testdisk to copy the data to a new drive.

Ok.... so this has the potential to be very annoying. In the previous version of windows you would get a message saying you having run a defender scan in a while. You could just just click it away however.

Now that MS have put a defender icon in the taskbar, you now have a yellow exclamation mark on the defender icon telling you you havent run a scan.

How can I get rid of this.... It seems to ask me daily to scan now.

People accuse Windows 7 of looking dated... but I'll take this over that every day of the week:

Yep, Windows 7 looks rather dated now with all the shiny highlights and drop shadows.

It's had its day.

Windows 10 in that screenshot looks like Windows 3.1 - flat almost "monochrome" with sprawling low detail resolution UI elements badly organised - might be "modern" but I'll take the "dated" visual depth and focus of 7 every day.

The difference is Windows 7 with Aero was optimised for actual PC hardware, whereas Windows 8 onwards is optimised for the worst case mobile devices.

Sadly you hit the nail on the head there - going in they designed the whole OS around the limitations of the lowest common denominator. On mobile the UI doesn't actually look to bad and you can see what they were going for but it doesn't translate to the desktop very well at all. With mobile failing to take off they really need to revisit their strategy and make 10 the best desktop OS it can be and/or play to the strengths of each device - on tablets 10 needs a lot of work just to catch up with 8 even.

There are stupid annoyances on the PC that probably aren't there on tablet devices either.

Eg when I launch "calculator" the window isn't focused, so I can't just start typing numbers. I have to mouse over the new calc window and click it to focus it, then start typing.

On a tablet I suspect you have to do this anyhow, to get the on-screen keyboard to come up.

But on a non-tablet device the extra click is pointless.

Windows 10 is more about performance not about "oh, i want my desktop to look pretty!"

I remember how much of a system hog Aero was. I don't miss it.

When you use the OS for a good bit of the day both for work and casually though it can get quite an eye sore if its just plainly functional in look - atleast with 7 you can simply turn off aero if you don't like that aspect - whereas if they were making 7 today you'd probably be "forced" into using it :S
