Right, so some may have seen my X79 setup has been grounded as my MB has died and I cant get a replacement. It sucks because all the other hardware is good and still powerful enough for what I need.

I sourced a x79 motherboard from a UK company but unfortunately they were damaged in transit to their warehouse and now they are saying its doubtful they will get any x79 board back in. Ive looked secondhand and cant find anything that I trust, and I don't have access to the Members Market here.

So in a last go, if any of you are selling an X79 board PM me (if rules allow that) and we can talk.

Anyway!

My only real option is to move to a X99 board.

I'd like to hear what hardware you would recommend.

My current setup is:

x79 UD5 MB
i7 3930K CPU
64GB 1600 DDR3 Patriot RAM
1080 FE GPU
850 Gold Antec PSU
7x 512GB SSDs
2x 7200rpm 2TB HDD
H100i Cooler
Antec P180 Case

So there are a few things I can salvage, mainly the 1080, and storage.

I use the machine mainly for Audio and Video editing and some gaming.

My 'Potential X99 Build' is:

Motherboard: X99-A II Intel X99

CPU: Intel i7-6800K 3.40GHz

RAM: 2x Vengeance LPX 32GB (2x16GB) DDR4 3200MHz - I'll up to 128GB in due course.

GPU: GeForce GTX 1080 FE (already owned)

CPU Cooler: Corsair Hydro H100i v2

PSU: Super Flower Leadex 850W 80 Plus Gold

OS Drive: Samsung 950 Pro M.2 PCI-e 512GB

Case: Be Quiet! Dark Base Pro 900 Full Tower Case - Orange Windowed

Comes to £1699.

I could salvage the case and the PSU, saving another £250, bringing the cost down to £1450, however my P180 case is a bit naff and generally noisy, and my PSU while it seems fine, does sometimes cut out, however that may be the MB shorting (damage on rear - hence upgrade), and its simply doing its damn job!

Additional Drives Already Owned:
4x Crucial 512GB SSDs in 2TB RAID 0 via USB 3 Dock. (Samples)
2x Samsung 850 256GB SSDs. (1x Audio Sessions, 1x Work Files)
1x Samsung 850 128GB SSD. (1x Misc Files)
2x WD 7200rpm 2TB HDD. (1x Films/TV Shows, 1x Audio, Work, OS Backup)
1x 2TB USB 3 External Drive. (Backup of Samples Raid)

Thoughts? Should I pull the trigger?

Looking at the X99 spec again, is there anywhere I can cut price without loosing performance and quality, in terms of using different makes or perhaps models?
I'm not sure if there are any bundles that could work.

Do you really need a £500 motherboard ?

My last MB failed on me, so I want to make sure that what I get is solid. However What does the V Rampage offer over anything else? I really dont care about lights etc.

For me its 128GB Ram capacity, Stability, High number of SATA3 ports and USB3/3.1 ports.

The Rampage is top end and aimed at extreme overclockers. If you aren't pushing the chip too hard, then there are plenty cheaper boards available.
