Belgian police attacked with machete

Didn't they immediately surrender?

Nope. They charge the Police with their machetes and the Police marksman calmly shot them in the legs and then provided life saving first aid at the side of the road. Really exceptional training and policing.

A shame. I will never cease to be impressed by how the British police man managed to bring Lee Rigby's attacker's in alive. Real, quality policing.

The female officer couldn't draw her pistol because she was seated and unready, and an officer in the rear of the car only managed a leg, stomach and hand shot using an assault rifle. IMO good terrorist policing would have left him inert, looking like a colander... I can't see how the British public have benefited from bringing him alive....

I'm not going to comment on whether the Belgian Police could have done better under these circumstances. It should always be the aim of Police to bring suspects in alive to face justice.

nope, they were shot in a very controlled manner within a matter of seconds when police exited their vehicles... and then (unlike US police) immediate first aid provided

when they were stood speaking to people filming them on mobile phones?

Which then led to us, the tax-payers, stumping up untold wads of cash for the scum's subsequent medical treatment, their trial and their incarceration which is a whole life tariff. A bullet to the head would've been the far cheaper option.

Yes, that's what we do with criminals. Having proper justice is worth the cost.

Which would have martyred them, that was their intention.

Id rather their aim were to do whatever it took to ensure the public safety. Leg shots are all well and good in theory and in the movies but rarely in real life.

Wouldn't you rather live in a country where everyone is safe rather than just yourself, statistically speaking?

The 'your' was generic. Terrorism is a rounding error in accident, injury, and death statistics. It does not make us materially less safe. It does not change the fact that Belgium, Germany, France and the UK are some of the safest countries on Earth to live in.

Or we could spend a fortune on counter-intelligence, drones, overseas liaison, hightech electronic gear, etc because we failed to get intel from a suspect.

Not quite as clear cut as you paint it.

Just trying to understand your logic - Are you saying that only someone directly effected by an event should be bothered by it?

#probable stupid question.
