Hi, I've just finished my HTPC build and just need some advice on what of the below settings I should be using thanks. The setup is like this...

HTPC

Output colour format = RGB or YCbCr422 or YCbCr444
Output dynamic range = Full or Limited

Denon AVR2308

HDMI Video Setup

Colour Space = RGB or YCbCr
RGB Range = Enhanced or Normal

Samsung UE55H6400

HDMI Black Level = Low or Normal

I used Kodi for my movie playback and this also has a setting for Limited range or normal. I will also play games now and then (GTX970)

This is all connected via HDMI cables.

Any advice would be great as theres so many settings :)

As you play games every now and then I would configure the following options;

HTPC

Output colour format = RGB
Output dynamic range = Full

Denon AVR2308

HDMI Video Setup

Colour Space = RGB
RGB Range = Enhanced

Samsung UE55H6400

HDMI Black Level = Low (I think this is what Samsung's full range is called but change to the other setting if your blacks look slightly grey)

Essentially you just need the same settings across the board and the HTPC will be intelligent enough to map whatever the source colour space and black level is to your output settings.

Cheers buddy so whats different if i don't play games?

If you didn't play games I would have said set the colour format to YCbCr444 and range to limited since this is what video typically is (albeit mostly it's 4:2:0 or 4:2:2). That being said though your graphics card and Kodi will be able to remap the colour space of the source to the output correctly so it doesn't matter too much. Just need to make sure every device in the chain has the same settings.
