Pretty dubious about Pogba, he is defiantly not worth the money. Although nothing is worse than Carrick and Fellaini.

According to the Sunday Times (articles referring to it all over, but its subscriber only so I cant read / link to the actual thing) its been reported that Pogba could be worth £40m in his first season alone to Utd.

Obviously thats marketing speak, and may not actually be cash back in Utd's pocket, but if they can "monetise" that amount in a single season from this one player it has to be worth it. Also its likely that amount drops significantly in subsequent years but even so.

At the end of the day who really cares what he cost, as long as he performs on the pitch

Surely he won't play in any of the first few fixtures. Having only just ended his holiday he will probably need to burn off a few pounds and get back towards match fitness.

Yeah I assumed he'd miss the first couple of games too, you'd think he'd be lacking match fitness due to not having any pre-season.

Looks like a nasty injury to Gabrielle - if that doesn't management into purchasing a new centre half nothing will.

Well forget Gabriel, we have needed one since Mert got injured but this will make it a priority. Which will mean ultimately that we will not signs forward/striker as Walcott has now become a scoring machine:p lol.

Pleased to sign Pogba. It's a lot of money but you have to figure it makes financial sense in the long term because the Glazers aren't spending that much for footballing reasons.

Manchester United are on the brink of re-signing Paul Pogba from Juventus in a world record £89m deal.

United will pay 105m euros for Pogba and performance-related bonuses and other costs could see that figure rise.

The midfielder will have a medical in the next few days with the deal due to be completed in midweek.

The 23-year-old, who left United for £1.5m in 2012, is set to return for a fee that surpasses Gareth Bale's £85m move to Real Madrid in 2013.

Bit more Pogba info. Watching Fellaini and Carrick today, I couldn't be happier about this.

I still think it's far too much for someone who is a proven flight risk and is as yet still the unfinished article.

Then there's the risk of injury.

I'd be baulking at paying half of that for him. If he's really so good, why wouldn't Juve take half that with another 50m "when" he wins a Ballon D'Or?

Just mental.

We're happy to pay it so why not? Lots of players have gone for huge sums of money and aren't as good as Pogba could potentially be (he's one of the better players in his role anyway).

If we were blowing our entire transfer budget on him then it would be stupid, but that's not the case. As ever with any transfer, it will come down to how he performs. If he continually dominates midfield every week, it'll be forgotten.

Also remember we'll be milking the marketing side of this for every penny.

I get that it's a huge fee and certainly isn't what he's realistically worth, but this is the modern transfer market, especially for us.

Lots of players still haven't gone for a fraction of what Pogba's going for though. And the marketing side of this won't pay a fraction of his wages let alone put a dent into his fee. As for the fee and the implications, it's not just going to be a 1 time hit. He sets a precedent. Whenever you go for a player now Pogba's fee will be the benchmark. It's a massive gamble.

Had you been signing one of the absolute very best players in the world then you'd say it's expensive but you swollow it but Pogba? I've drawn comparrisons to the Di Maria signing before but it's very similar. Di Maria was no better than Sanchez (worse given how things have turned out), a rung or 2 below the best players in the world, yet you paid near double what Arsenal paid. He's better but there's no way Pogba's 3 x better than Xhaka for example. And we keep hearing about how good he might become - he's 23 not 17. By 23 the likes of Ronaldo and Messi were already performing at the very top level.

A very good player, potentially an excellent player and undoubtedly will improve Utd but the fee's crazy no matter how you look at it.

Football transfers are generally quite crazy and are affected by all sorts of factors. The bottom line for me is, I'd rather have Pogba than have the £89m sat in the bank not doing much, or waiting for the Glazers to use it for something else.

I think the marketing side of it will likely be greater than you've suggested there, but I'm not saying it'll necessarily be huge either.

As it stands, I have no issues at all, but I do agree it's a lot of money. To put it in perspective (flawed though this comparison may be): would I rather have Pogba, or Sterling + Andy Carroll - adjusted for market inflation... easy decision.

Again though, if he gets injured or struggles, it'll suddenly be a disaster, but that's a risk with any big signing.
