Air Cooler Suggestions please

Have fun with the R1 if that's what you choose, I am still using mine when Doyll mentioned it to me, I had no idea they even existed... Mines has the red shrouds on it with 3 fans, Right up against the 140mm on my Air 540 haha.

How you finding it Evian

I love it, It's not ugly like the Noctua, I went for the best air cooler that looks reasonably good albeit massive, It's keeping my 2500k at 4.6ghz @ 37c idle may seem high maybe not but the rest of my case fans are barely on.

Trying to find a picture of it on my HDD's but can't find it atm.. Still looking.

R1 are great coolers. I would advise doing a dry 'practice' install to figure out exactly where you want to position it before applying any TIM. This way you won't be moving cooler on CPU when TIM is on it (I hope) ;p The less movement the better .. and we definitely do not want it to be rocked or lifted at all. That lets air bubble in, and the do not transfer heat well at all. The also expand and contract every time system is turned on and off, and can 'pump' the TIM out of optimum seating position.

Evian, do you know what the actual temp is of air going into cooler? While your high-ish idle temps may be becasue of 4.6GHz, they may be because the air going into cooler is only 8-10c warmer than room (it can 15-20c). If this true and you improve case airflow so cooler intake is only 2-5c warmer the CPU will be 25-32c

Welp I raided all of my HDD's and can't find the newest picture but I went through all my post pages till I found the thread where I had just installed it here is the pics, The other two sets of rubber grommets for fan vibration that are black in the picture but I emailed Cryorig asking where I could get red ones as the 3rd fan I purchased did have red ones, So they sent me them for free. :D

It's 22C in my room atm, No idea about case temps but all my fans are on like super low as I have them the lowest they can go with my fan controller.

If you want to experiment a little, try removing the rear exhaust and see if system is quieter and / or just as cool .. or rear cooler fan. Two fans that close together often make more noise and flow less air. ;)

So we have no idea hot hot your case air actually is. :p

If you are interested in finding out, lower part of this post shows a very low cost way to find out what your component intake air temps are. ;)

be quiet! Dark Rock Pro 3 is 162.8mm tall and case spec is 161mm CPU clearance. While case CPU clearance specs are often a little conservative, sometimes they are right on, so DRP3 may not fit.
