Honest question, i am looking at new monitors for an impending house move.
Would you guys spend potentially £££'s on B grade monitors with just a 90 day warranty?

Anyone had B grade monitor experiences?

I have had 2 in recent times (XB321HK and X34) and they've been fantastic! XB was pretty much perfect and the X34 had a bit of bleed in the corners but nothing I couldn't live with on a low brightness setting (I run 28 brightness, plenty for me)

Looked at B grade monitors myself but was always put off by the warranty as well.
Would be good to know why the monitors were returned in the first place, as if someone just changed their mind and retuned it, it would give me a better reason to take a gamble on them.

Which is why im personally hesitant. If i dropped 500+ notes on a monitor 90 days really does not cut it.

Had a chat with support at OC and it's 90 warranty from them and then whatever remains of the manufacturers warranty.

It's a game you receive the monitor an then set about finding why it was returned. So far OC are winning because I can't find anything wrong with the BenQ XR3501 I bought at a 48% discount!

Took a chance on a B-Grade XB271HU for £400 and I can't fault it!

Slight bleed/glow on bottom right but it doesn't bother me as much as some people plus no dead/stuck pixels I can.

Box was tatty but monitor was perfect.

As Bantu said, 90days with OCUK the rest with Acer.

Often it can just be a damaged box, and the product itself hasn't even been touched. Always a risk but the savings you can make are well worth it, and as mentioned you will invariably still have a full warranty, just not with OCUK beyond 90 days. Also, with monitors these days, perfection is never going to be achieved anyway, so often someone will return something that would be no different to a brand new one (minor backlight bleed for example). At the end of the day, you shouldn't get something that's 'broken', and if you do you are more than entitled to return it. B-grade certainly doesn't mean inoperable or severely damaged.

Before you buy a B-grade or clearance item make sure you take a look at the main page for it. On a couple of occasions I've seen OCUK selling B-grades at a higher price than the same item brand new. It's not malicious - when online retailers have a one-shot sale like this they typically look at the retail price, decide a discount and post it to the site with its own stock code. Because it's a different item with a different stock code, it's not affected by changes to the price of the item sold new. So OCUK can post a B-grade at £50 off RRP, then RRP falls £80 and the B-grade is now £30 more expensive than a new item.

I've bought 2 B Grade monitors from OcUK, one being my Dell S2716DG which was £330, perfect condition just an opened box and a thumb print on the screen which easily wiped off.

Second one was an Acer XB240HA for the wife which was £200. Again an opened box and this one had no bags for the cables etc. The on screen buttons did not work correctly and the on screen FPS counter was on all the time (couldn't turn off due to buttons not working). Sent it back to OcUK and they refunded the £200. Would have liked for it to have been repaired as for the price it would have been an awesome monitor, but alas it wasn't an option. Ended up going for a £300 AOC G2460PG instead which is a fantastic piece of kit :)

I also bought a Dell S2716DG B-Grade from OcUK - Absolutely perfect - Just an already opened box (Re-sealed), everything inside was in great condition. No dead pixels etc.

A++ would buy again :p

This. You have full manufacturers warranty so isnt an issue.

Ive had some crackers. One was perfect but missing the remote but not a big deal and another B grade forum buyer posted me his. Think it was £200 vs the £350 they were new in the shop.

Last one was the current Benq 32" 4k. perfect, nothing missing and £250 off the price in the shop.

BTW if you dont think the B grade price is low enough vs new then send ocuk a webnote.

I think they had my Benq at only £70 off as it had come down in price from what is was originally. One quick webnote later and the guy at ocuk had dropped it another £180. :D

Rough rule of them with monitors is that you shouldnt be paying more than two thirds the price of the current new price.

In fact just realised that apart from the brand new monitor I bought at two thirds price on ocuk shop opening day, all my monitors for the alst ten years have been B grade ones.

And if you swap often you quite often get most of your money back when you come to sell them.

With all the savings you have made over the years on B grade monitors, no wonder you can afford a Titan X Pascal :D

I should start doing the same.:)

That's a good tip tbh, esp if they haven't yet had time to reduce them (or the RRP has gone down for some reason and it's too close :))

Yeah there's two of the big 34" widescreen monitors in b grAde at same money as new is now as model been replaced I think. A web note pointing that out should be able to get £200 off that monitor no probs.

My brand new opened box benq for £400 was a steal especially since they are now almost £700. I think I sent my web note when the new price was on offer to maximise the discount.

Good thing is it wasn't just mine. They had three in stock so ocuk changed the price online. They all got sold that day :D
