Suicide Squad (2016)

Theres nothing particularly cohesive outside of the season-long story arcs and Bruce hasnt really moved much away from being one-dimensional, but the pacing of the show allows them ample time to weave that in, theyve already started down the idea of him having a darker side.

Still probably the best thing with a DC label on it, though Im Batman biased...

EDIT: TBH they spend an inordinate amount of effort on Jim Gordon and not enough on Bruce

It's really more about Gotham than Bruce/Batman, so I guess that's to be expected.

At least in the films; the 'worlds greatest detective' has always been overlooked in the face of the 'worlds deadliest Bat', and that a superhero movie driven primarily by an investigation and character development would struggle as the genre's expectation is that of action adventure.

I would love to see a more in depth character study of the worlds greatest detective and would hate to see it in the cinema. A HBO series, with a suitably big budget exploring Batman's origins - his genius - his rise as the worlds greatest detective - really explore the darker side of modern crime and life - would be excellent. However, it would require a lightness of touch and a writer far and above anything DC have on offer at the minute.

Just imagine, a series where Batman is shown becoming who he is - first episode could just be him in a flashback remembering his childhood and the decisions he made - as he arrives back in Gotham. Following him evolve in to the character after investigating the criminal underworld and following murders/rapists/career criminals - at the end of the series becoming a slightly more 'finished product' - but a Batman that relies on genuine terror and fear tactics and his investigation skills to capture and stalk his prey. It would be excellent and dark and brilliantly psychological.

Completely agree this would be amazing. Bats is (IMO) the best superhero due to his not being "super" he is human and when you read the comics he relies on his mind, abilities and his (Bats) reputation to install terror. Mixed with his moral compass it is just the perfect blend.

I really don't understand the hate for this film. It's definitely better then BvS though that isn't saying much. I would say it was a solid 6 or 7 out 10, I was entertained for 2 hours. Liked El Diablo, Margot Robbie was spot on has Harley, Joker was decent though he could have done with more screen time and the humour worked for the most part. Wasn't a fan of the very quick paced editing for the 1st half of the film, or the score ramming popular songs down your throat too frequently. Will definitely watch again when released on Blu-ray.

Where was the PLOT??

I felt so sad that this movie was as bad as it is because it looked great from the trailer and I really wanted to like it, but it was just terrible. The individual scenes just felt disconnected and were nonsense and some of the dialogue was cringe-worthy. Just ripped from countless movies I had seen before.

Why did the helicopter crash at the start? I mean they all got out and no one died, so why was that needed?

Why was Katana even in the movie, she had next to no development and just randomly appears for no real reason

What are they even in Midway for... I had no idea the purpose of them being there until Waller shows up and that is over half way through the movie.

They had all this character building, sexual tension, camaraderie thrown in a random intervals, but none of it makes any sense.

A little off topic I know. But why has no one ever done a Batman that is "the Worlds Greatest Detective" it's always the vigilante, the butt kicker never the genius.
Bale covered the base on the driven character who kicks bottom but never got close to anything resembling detective work and no suggestion of genius.
We haven't seen a lot of Affleck it would be nice to think he could do a more thoughtful character.

While it will only be a small part of the movie, I would think Justice League is the closest we will see to this side of him - finding the identities of the heroes initially, and then possibly being the brains of the outfit because it will be hard to make the 'batman' part shine with a bunch of people with supernatural abilities

Saw it last night. It's not as bad as many are making out imo but definitely nothing special and bit of a wasted opportunity. Man of Steel, for me, was far worse and the lowest point. BVS was better and I'd probably rate that a tad higher than Suicide Squad but not much in it either way.

Worst aspect for me was overuse of contemporary music in scene after scene. Clearly an attempt to sell a soundtrack album like with Guardians of the Galaxy. It felt overdone at times and the tracks took a lot away from the immersion.

Definitely needed more Joker and perhaps a better enemy / threat. Don't think it deserves the mysognistic card thrown at it either. Seemed well handled to me in that regard.

I know people bashed Bale a little but Nolan's Batman caught the tone of DC perfectly, that it is dark, ****** and uncompromising and there is nothing wrong with that. The big mistake was (as I have said before) getting Snyder and his puerile kiddy T&A take on all comics which lessens the impact of the films. That and the fact he thinks all comic book fans want is big explosions, yes they are needed but they should not remove the need for character interaction or good story.

Be all and end all of DC's problems is Snyder (he was exec producer on this) I would ditch him and start again but it is a ballsy move to admit how badly they have messed this up and to just start again.

Yes yes and yes.

Ditching Snyder should be the first thing DC should do.

The reason Nolan's Batman worked was because it followed the dark path that DC comics are all about with a great director and good script to go on.

The Dark Knight Rises was fairly mediocre compmared to the first 2 of his Batman's but still a good superhero movie in general.

Batman vs Superman was an abomination even worse than Man of Steel imo.

The first half of this movie was a 9/10 for me, I thought they done the characters back stories really well and the actors they had play them nailed their parts.

The second half of the movie there was just too many plot holes and big mistakes that ruined it.

DC has only done Batman really well, I have been so disappointed with all their other work.

Also the best Batman released since Nolan stepped down was the graphic novel of The Dark Knight Returns parts 1 and 2. It may only be a cartoon but they were epic.

Haven't seen this yet but sounds like I'm not missing much. I may catch it next week if still about but to be honest I didn't find the trailer grabbed me.

I thought BvS was OK but nothing special.

There are arguments for/against this but for me I don't like the separation of TV/film that DC has gone down - great casting in their TV shows that could have capitalised on without isolating the moviegoer.

Have the need to watch Nolan trilogy again - so good.

I know this film is rated 15 but how suitable would it be for a 12 year old to see? Is their lots of swearing and how bad is the violence. Only asking as it's the topic of discussion with her and her friends at the moment and i'm being pestered to take her.

I think it's fine for a 12 year old. Not much swearing or blood in it.

Thought it was rather boring the film tbh. Only thing i liked was harley quin lass. The only good fight in the film was between the fire bloke when he went uber against the other big dude. Rest of the fights were meh.

Depends if she gets nightmares easily. No nudity but some gratuitous bra covered boobs and hot pant covered ass shots.

The odd swear word but nothing a 12 year old wont have heard at school.

I am thinking of seeing it a second time, not in 3D.

Now I know why Jared Leto stayed in character offset, probably the only chance he got to play the Joker. Because he was hardly in this Will Smith movie and when he was, I didn't like his version of the Joker.

Joker was terrible wasnt he just some green hair punk with metal teeth or somit. Kinda like a fake joker from a low budget copy cat film that sometimes comes out during big aaa movies. I still reckon jack from batman 1 was the best joker.

Weird you say jack was the best, as Letos version is the same. They are both the leaders of large gangs stealing money etc and chasing after the girl they want.
