Anyway to stop full GPU clocks on 144hz desktop

So on 144hz desktop my gpu is constantly running 1139 on the core and 3506 on the memory wouldn't mind but it's making my idle temp 48 degrees with a 40% fan.

Is there a fix for this or a workaround i've tried 60hz desktop but that results in some games no recognising i have a 144hz monitor (presume they take the desktop refresh rate)

that didn't work for me but what has worked is turning off hardware acceleration in google chrome, i'm now on the desktop at 144hz on 135mhz on the core.

even when minimised chrome was causing the gpu to go full clocks when i exited the program clocks dropped to 135mhz quick google suggested turn of hardware acceleration and hey presto it's worked.

i can now browse the web without costing a fortune in electric :) lol

Doesn't work in all games, so pretty useless. Many of my games were running at 120Hz even though maximum refresh rate was set to preferred etc.

Ended up just leaving it running 144Hz at 1Ghz constantly. Uses more power, but still very efficient compared to anything AMD.
 
If you have corsair link software install that is the problem,I know this because I put it on for my H110 GT,took it off and it ran with normal idle clocks on my 144hz ASUS monitor.

when you say constant is it even when Chrome is closed?

have you made sure you have adaptive power management set in Nvidia control panel?

I have 144hz and it only ramps up with chrome if i have hardware acel on and watching say youtube vid

How many monitors in total do you have? Nvidia cards run at increased speed with 3 monitors attached.

My 1070 runs at almost 1Ghz with a single 1440P 144Hz monitor attached, with nothing running apart from GPU-Z. It's a well known NVIDIA bug, which cannot be fixed by setting 120Hz for the desktop as this doesn't apply in all games.

Not had that problem myself so far - GTX1070 with the Dell 1440p 144Hz monitor at 144Hz on the desktop (I often have a second monitor attached as well - either 21:9@75Hz or 4K) - aside from briefly jumping upto about 1GHz when I first open a program that uses hardware acceleration it sits at this:

Same as Rroff's pic above, asus ROG swift at 144Hz at all times, card is sitting at 135Mhz on desktop. A while back on differrent drivers though i had to set the Hz to 120 in cp to enable downclocking at idle. Gtx 980ti here though.

Its the power mode in Nvidia control panel as stated above, if you have it on 'performance' its basically always on, optimal or adaptive is where you need to be and it will down clock when its not needed.
