I have a gtx 1080 watercooled, which is great card imo and when I bought it I was on 3440 x 1440 so every little counted to me

but now im on 2560x1080 so much less demanding, even less than 1440p lol

my friend has offered me his EVGA hydrocopper 980 ti and £200 for my watercoled MSI gtx 1080 FE

not sure what to do? I do like the 1080s lower power and slightly less heat

but I could put that £200 back into the PC to upgrade something else maybe? or maybe im being stupid?

what would you guys do or what do you suggest, I know people will say there will be no driver optimization for maxwell but I do think maxwell/pascal are very similar

only reason im considering it is because im at the lower res than before plus if I did decide to sell the 1080 on ebay id probably get about £580 for it then fees and postage around £500 then the block etc probably £560 all in

If you need money, you need money but i think it would be a silly deal. If your not in need of money keep the 1080 it would be a silly deal.

There's nothing you can really upgrade that will improve your PC more than having the 1080 for £200.

did have a big SSD & faster ram in mind

but your probably right, i'll think about it also seeing the other thread on 980ti v 1080 doesnt help me :p

I do not believe the deal is fair. A second hand GTX980Ti goes for £300-320.
+ £200 = ~£500 for a brand new GTX1080.

Depending which GTX1080 you have and how much you paid, the call is yours.

the hydro coppers go for just above the 400 mark

used? if so ok. get the 980ti

yeah used, the price of whats been sold in the last 2 weeks shows all of them over 400, I think its down to the fact its EVGA, prefitted waterblock & EVGA again. lol but probably because transferable warranty is good and most are probably buying to add a second card for SLI

A 980Ti will stomp all over 2560x1080, even after you limit the power draw to 75% or something in afterburner if noise/heat is an issue. Personally I'd want a bit more than +£200 though.

Ceazy move in my opinion, There's no reason to go backwards, the other components you've got are as good as you're gonna get PC wise when it comes to gaming, Keep the 1080 and save up for an M.2 ssd but don't do a deal and lose the 1080 for one. This is like in another thread where someones considering buying last gen tech instead of this gen because it's an EVGA card which is also crazy imo.

Keep the 1080 and upgrade whatever you need to when you have the money. No point downgrading just to upgrade something else.
