Forza 6 and wheel advice/questions

I'm probably buying a newish Xbox One for ~£150 tomorrow. It will pretty much be a Forza 6 machine. Whether that's worth it or not I don't know - I've never played the game, but I loved the Motorsport series on Xbox 360 and had a lot of fun using my PW GT2. Forza 5 wasn't very good and lacked a lot of content compared to Forza 4, so I skipped it. But Forza 6 seems to be a return to the glory days of the series. I was always weary of taking the plunge because I'm totally a PC gamer and the cost of ownership for just one game was quite high. Now that a bit of time has passed, I can stomach the cost - even if it's still technically a lot of money to blow for just one game. :p

Anywho.

Is Game the only place to buy the Ultimate Edition in the UK, and is it a code only? I can't seem to find anything to the contrary. I haven't done the maths, but I'm guessing it's a lot cheaper than buying the game and DLC individually. I should probably look into whether it's actually worth it though (****** car packs for example).

And, crucially, how does the Thrustmaster TX get on with the game? It's a better wheel than my old PW GT2, and it's near-perfect in R3E and iRacing. Less so in rFactor 2 and Asetto Corsa due to weird profiles or something but still decent. The TX is the only question mark because it working well in Forza 6 is make or break for this whole thing...I can't (won't) do racing games without a wheel.

So yeah. Bit of a long post, but I want to be 100% certain before I leave the house the tomorrow!

Thanks for reading.

The forza games usually pop up on sales every month or so on the xbox store.

With forza horizon 3 coming soon, I'd expect all the forza games to be on sale soon.

Great game though.

As a long time PC sim racer I bought an Xbox One last year as well as upgrading my sim wheel to a full Fanatec setup. Part of my Fanatec purchase was the CSW Xbox One rim, which was essentially purchased to play Forza 6.

Anyway. To cut a long story short, I bascly spent a weekend playing Forza 6 a while back and as a result I sold the game and the CSW rim.

There are loads of little annoying things with the game like the unskippable cut scenes every time you start a race. The out and out cheating AI, the unavoidable pools of water during wet races and the weird physics that make it feel like you're on a knife edge control.

If you're normally a PC sim racer then there a better driving experiences on PC. The one things consoles have that PC doesn't is sim style game that's actually a decent single player experience. That's one thing Forza and Gran Turismo have that so far non of the current PC sims don't.

If you end up buying FM6, there is competition on over the next few weeks where you can win the Porsche & Nascar expansion packs.

You just need to sign up and then finish each week in the top 50% in the league races (5 divisions depending on skill).

You also get a couple of exclusive cars for just taking part in the league & rival races.

I was asking around on another forum, and this is basically what someone else said too lol. It just doesn't feel 'right'. Also some kind of vibration/FFB bug with the TX where it pulls left sometimes...that's a deal breaker for me.

Yeah, this is why I loved Forza so much. The collectathon aspect and the community is a big part of the appeal for me. Having a solid leaderboard system with good participation is another reason. R3E's leaderboard is pretty great, and it's probably my favourite sim at the moment because of it, but the game just doesn't have the audience. I'm setting fastest laps on some tracks in some cars using the default setups, and I'm left thinking "am I actually that good or is it just because there's only like 13 other people on this leaderboard?"

Anyway, I've decided against the Xbox for now. I need to find a way of testing it properly so I can be sure either way.

Thanks for the comments!

The Thrustmaster TX wheel works just fine with Forza 6

P.S. Just remembered there is a bug with the wheel sometimes pulling to the left, but this can be dialled out by setting one of the wheel settings to 0 (can't remember which one of the top of my head, but an internet search will find it). Apart from this , the wheel works very well; it's what I use for all of my Pc & XB1 driving games.
