As per title, is it just me or have the BBC gone totally overboard with their coverage of this? Even the news and their website is dominated by the event, there was kind of a brief summary 12 minutes in on BBC Breakfast this morning. They spent more time on some local Brazilian woman's hen night than the main news. Obviously it's an important event and good to see Team GB doing well, but not at the expense of national and international "normal" news.

About the only upside is their reporters and anchors aren't voicing that irritating "so called" prefix every time they mention ISIS.

I could just about understand it 4 years ago when we hosted the last event but this one is half way round the world!

I have no real interest in the Olympics whatsoever but everyone I know is talking about it almost constantly. The BBC have gone mad with the coverage but it seems like the UK has gone mad with interest in the Olympics too. Isn't the point of the BBC to offer what people want? They seem to be doing exactly that in this case.

I think it is down to GB's success. Back in the 90's I remember day after day of hoping for just one Gold medal for the entire team.

Look at us now, second on the medal table with more to come. Must be the most one of the most remarkable turnarounds of any nation.

Something GB should be very proud of.

Wonder how much of this is down to the increased scrutiny of drugs leveling the playing field a bit more?

No financial controls, have to show they're the best at sport when they've lost most of it, hundreds of staff aboard the Rio gravy train so they stick it down your throat until you get sick...

Let's also not forget that mess of a web site.

What annoys me the most is the channel switching between 1, 2 and 4 when they could use just one all the time. Nobody would die it 2 and 4 did all the coverage. Then when you switch over another face gives you more of the same updates.

Clare Balding never seems to be off the air, do they pump her full of drugs everyday? She deserves a medal for the most talking without every taking a breath. I'm surprised that they haven't awarded themselves a few medals by now. :p

Got to show they're worth it. ;)

We are doing amazingly well out in Rio and its good its being covered so much.
Some good news in this time of violence and conflict is needed!

Yeah things like the fact 20 years ago we only won one gold medal, the fact we are doing way better than even the London Olympics, the fact that we won a gold medal in gymnastics for the first time in 100 years etc

Not so sure, heard this morning people saying the British swimmers have had medals robbed off them as failed drug takers have been allowed to swim again.

I'm tired of hearing how every medal is "historic". It's great, it will be recorded in history but the use of historic for everything is tiring.

However, it is great to see us in 2nd place.

"This is the first X since Y"! It's like watching wimbledon again - "This is the first time a left handed player has managed two aces in a row against an Australian player since 1994"

The single biggest and most sporting event in the world, something which only happens every 4 years, it is hard not to have a lot of focus on the Olympics.

the news reporting british sucesses...... who would've thought it :D

I'm glad we get to watch it on the BBC instead of it being sold off to Sky Sports. It's no different to other major sports events such as the World Cup.

I don't see the problem with it. A big sporting event that happens every 4 years and they have exclusive coverage, of course they're gonna big it up.

2016 has been a year of negativity. I don't have real interest in the Olympics but I'm not going to complain about the BBC making a big deal of something positive. Team GB is kicking ass and that should be celebrated!

The only thing I find annoying is that they have taken 455 staff to cover the Olympics (which we're paying for). They don't even provide the footage, the host nation does. What on earth do they need to take 455 people for just for the links in between the events?

Sky are the only broadcaster who know how to do sport properly, they're so far in front of the BBC as to be out of sight.

Clare Balding simply irritates me so couldn't watch anything she's doing.

I for one had little interest in the last Olympics but got caught up in the wave of London 2012 and was really happy with the medal haul, likewise this Olympics I didn't really have much interest in the run up but am absolutely thrilled we are performing as we are (think the Russians hardly being there is helping to be honest) and think as a nation we should be immensely proud of our athletes.
