Hey guys, a pretty simple and possibly quite daft question.. :o Can someone please confirm whether the pins on these two molex plugs are wired for 5v.

According to this they are

http://www.dslreports.com/faq/3256

But then I look at this https://www.overclockers.co.uk/bitf...an-adaptor-5v-20cm-grey-silver-cm-112-bx.html

And the pins are on the other side. I guess the Bitfenix image is the wrong image for the 5v version?

Cheers

Those definitely look like they're wired for 5V as per the molex connector pin-out diagram. Got a multimeter handy? That's a sure-fire way to work out what the voltage is.

Thanks for the quick reply Borealis. I think I might have a multimeter at home somewhere, I'll need to have a dig when I get back tonight and see if I can find it.

The trouble with Googling is so many of the images appear to be the wrong stock image for the 5v version, at least according to the pin-out diagram.

Nice one cheers for this Armageus.

It's a molex to mini gpu 2 pin connector. I'm going to use it to power a GEFORCE GTX LED logo I stripped out of a reference cooler. 12v would likely kill it whereas 5v should be perfect :)

Theyre on the 12v, all my 12v molex connectors are on that side, i just checked a few.

On second thought, BluD is right. Looking at the front of the connectors:

- the left-most pin of a female molex is the yellow 12V cable

- therefore the right-hand side of a male connector is 12V

The OCUK product pictures for the silver cables are correct for a +5V connection.

The link that Tupro added shows the black cables apparently wired for 12V...

Now the black ones could have a resistor in line, to step the voltage down, similar to the low-speed fan adapter cables you can get.

Oh cheers BluD. In that case I'll need to switch the pins over then to give me 5v.

Anyone know of a way to remove molex pins without having the specific tool?

ballpoint pen - remove the ink/pen part and use the casing.. should push over the pin and close the clasps

tried it myself and works easily
