nVidia GTX 1060 3GB - more than 3GB less

Meh why stop at 1050ti - it should be the 1040 :P nVidia just having a laugh and sadly way too many people who will actually side with them against the consumer's interest.

OMG I've just discovered that you can buy a Ford Focus Style with three different engines, some of them producing different amounts of power giving 8 variations, funny though Ford call them all the Ford Focus style.

OMG AMD sell the RX480 with either 4GB or 8GB and guess what they perform differently.

NVidia are going to sell two variants of the 1060 with different memory amounts and different performance, this isn't anything new, loads of companies do this all the time, including AMD.

Ford Focus RS with a 1.4L 105BHP engine.

AMD don't sell GPU's under a product name with a smaller engine.

nope, get facts right.

So the RX480 4GB and the RX480 8GB both give exactly the same performance then. Oh wait they don't and yet they are both called the RX480.

The 1060 6GB and the 1060 3 GB will perform differently and are named accordingly.

They do, the 4GB 480 has the same 2306 Shaders as the 8GB, its memory is lower clocked but other than that they are exactly the same GPU.

The 1060 3GB is difference, it has 10% less shaders than the 6GB, the memory doesn't matter so much because you can easily set the same clocks, the SKU on the 3GB 1060 is gimped, nothing you can do about that, its always slower.

I agree they should all be identical in performance and the 480 4GB is not identical, at least not out of the box, i'm just pointing out the distinct difference in that the 1060 3GB has a different,- slower SKU, the 480 4GB or 8GB are identical.

1060 with 3GB isn't confusing and not sure why people are up in arms over this. So many variants in loads of things we buy and they have the same name but I guess being Nvidia, they are the devil incarnate of course lol

Exactly this +1

Ironic that, your post is confused, its not a "1060 with 3GB" its a cut down gimped GPU with less shaders than a 1060 and 3GB. Perhaps you are confused afterall? or your just being sarcastic, its impossible to tell with you half the time.

They should have called it the GTX1050, or even the GT1060. Why go through all the fuss of making all these clever GPU naming schemes and then not make full use of it.

are they breaking any laws?

No, technically as long as they list how many shaders is has in their own official info / marketing they are not breaking any laws..

And yet if i was to pull up a 1060 3GB review and say "this is the performance of the 1060" just watch how fast i would get jumped on and corrected in that "its not really the performance on the 1060 because its gimped compared with the proper 1060"

Can't have it both ways...

Well I will hazard a guess that once this product is released it will be you that is confused, seeing as it is their product and they can call it what ever they like.

If this works out for them we'll end up having to declare shader counts with future GPU's in Benchmark threads :D

GPU-Z might become useful again.
