A chance to get one of these for the new place, totally no clue what is good, what is bad. As I have £100 John Lewis voucher so I am going to get it from there, budget wise...not sure, how much do I need to spend to get best bang for buck?

Features I would like is an ice dispenser, good energy rating but what sets them apart from a £800 to a £3,500 one? Ignoring the "Sub-Zero" brand at £15k !

Another Samsung here, although I wasn't that impressed with the water dispenser.
It doesn't hold much water so isn't cold for long, now I always dispense some ice first which circumvents the issue.
It does everything else well though and looks smart too.

Samsung here too. Plumbed in so with the ice making always means lots of chilly drinks! I've got one of the split down the middle FF's (RS7677). If I had the choice again if go for one where the fridge is on top and freezer on the bottom (RF24). It's a pain to be constantly bending over for salad/veggies and only seldomly going into the actual freezer compartment.

One thing I do like about line is the 'beer door' I to the fridge!

I hate to be that guy but...

I also have a Samsung :D

Bought it 4 or 5 years ago and it's been flawless. Dual cooling so the fridge and freeze are independent and can be turned off (useful when you're going on holiday and only need the freezer on

Yes you are right, I think near the floor to get an apple is a bit low, will have a think about the design of the too. Food for thought ;)

I have a Samsung twin cooler and it seems good to me. Ice maker is good and it's given no problems.

I got a Beko one without ice dispenser. Perfectly happy with it. I'm pretty sure they do ones with ice dispenser.

What makes a fridge "American Style"? Does that just mean over the top?

It just means a full size ~90-100cm fridge. Traditionally in the UK we've had small 60cm width ones unlike the Americans where the wider size has been common for many years.

Another Samsung here plumbed in for water and ice. The big fridge is great, the freezer section can be a bit fiddly to keep in order. Had for over 5 years now:)

Ah right :) fair enough. "American Style", as with most things just means bigger then :D

Usually means a large double door fridge.

We have a Fisher and Paykel, its superb. :) IIRC it was around £1500, the John Lewis ones seem expensive....unless they have increased in price.

Used to have a Fisher & Paykel. Was absolutely lovely.
Believe it was the thinner (and possibly older iteration) of this:

Unfortunately, at ~65cm, wouldn't fit in our 60cm gap at the new house so had to say goodbye. The replacement Miele is nothing like as good :(

They don't really do the vertical-split fridge freezers, but they do wide options on the horizontal-split ones. And have water-dispenser options

We had a Samsung plumbed in unit and it was complete and utter junk.

A couple of months out of the warranty the freezer wasn't getting cold (so we had to bin everything in there as we were returned home to find everything defrosted) and it turns out there was a known fault on the compressor. Samsung to did pay for the compressor but didn't cover the labour to fit it or the refrigerant so we were about £300 out of pocket.

3 months later the same thing (so again, we had to bin the entire contents of the freeer) and this time Samsung were not interested and refused to help. So that went off to the recycling centre.

We've now got an LG GS9366AEAV and are very happy with it. The door within a door thing is great and it makes ice quicker than the Samsung did. One minor niggle is that that water filter is external (I would prefer it to be internal) but it's not really a problem as the water paper feeding the fridge is on the other side of a stud wall in a cupboard so I've put the filter in there and have just the thin water pipe from the filter going to the fridge.
