Garage damaged my car

Ahahaha, you think he doesn't know it's the "big 4 year service next"?. If some mechanic who barely knows how to drive a car offered me a free "big" service I'd be running for the hills.

Chances are he will give you a "free" service but because of a couple of bolts and jubilee clips he accidentally loosens, you'll be crawling back a month later to put £800 in his back pocket.

The old "free service" joke is the worst joke you'll ever hear.

Garage is proper Toyota dealership so I trust them to do the job correct, plus the service jobs are all recorded online now.

How old are your tires, they look to be weathering really badly with all the cracks in the rubber.

Tyres are 17k and 3 years old.

Depends on the dealer, I called 6 different franchises (covering nearly 20 dealers) when trying to book my GT86 in for a service and all of them read off a generic Toyota service sheet what they would do with the car instead of actually looking at what was needed, then trying to charge extra for "optional" brake fluid and rear diff oil when it was a required part of the service. Even though Toyota GB now recognise this and have hiked the price up on servicing to accomodate the required fluids, some dealers are still working off old schedules and pricing the work on top or not doing it!

Dealers are too busy selling hybrids and Yarises with faulty airbags to care about car enthusiasts. At 17k miles I'd be wanting new tyres on the axle and rotated to the back to even out the wear.

think im going to push for a new wheel and tyre then, what are you running now as im thinking of a sport contact 5/6 if 6 is now in my size, i ll then pay for a second and rotate the wheels around.

Maybe I'm just an awkward customer but I'd want a new tyre, new wheel, that wing putting back perfectly, a documented geometry check for the front wheels and a detailed description of how while diagnosing a rattle my car ended up going off the road and smacking into something.

My first set of Primacy's lasted ~25k including about 8 track sessions but I didn't rotate often enough so the rears were done a couple of months earlier with a 2nd set of alloys I bought. Still had 2.5-3mm of tread left but on track they had no grip and the ABS was kicking in more under heavy braking. I replaced all 4 of my old tyres with Yokohama v105s which are less than £70 a corner, won't last as long as the Primacy but the level of grip is night and day different.

I would want all 4 wheels the same compound, with the same tread level on the same axle. For a front tyre if it hasn't been rotated with the rears or been on track I'd expect to be lasting ~30k miles so I wouldn't be comfortable only replacing one, and addind a different compound to the rear can increase understeer in the car.

New tyre, wheel refurbed to as new, full alignment.
Pay for the additional 3 tyres (at a non silly price)

The panel gap on the wing would annoy me no end tbh

but, how has the panel gap happened? the bottom lip of the bumper hitting a curb and pushing the bumper out of alignment? If so, then could there be internal damage to the bumper moulding - clips broken, etc. Could be worth a check if you can somehow get under the car. If anything is damaged then I'd also be pushing for a new bumper (along with the allow and tyre) - to return it to the condition it was in prior to the garage's test-pilot getting their hands on the keys. If nothing is broken/bent then surely it should clip back to the original position easily?

As long as they've been refurbed correctly, then you shouldn't notice the difference. A family members DS3 had 2 refurbs before they bought it, and you can see one was clearly done poorly, whilst the other was very good - can only assume they were done at separate places.

Unfortunately that's not something you're paying for. Why does it really matter what happened? As long as the garage rectify their mistakes and put the car back into pristine condition, even throwing in a full service for goodwill gesture is going above and beyond - yes i know services cost a garage a pittance in terms of profit loss, but it's still something that the customer has gained from.

Might be worth a laugh at the bs story the garage come out with:D.

This is a good question.

In reality it could be something completely innocent. I could well imagine myself listening for a rattle while crawling down an empty road, moving my head around the cabin while trying to hear for something. Can soon imagine myself leaning away from the steering wheel, or head near passenger footwell and then suddenly realising the car is heading towards the pavement or a monster pothole, try to quickly correct and just clip a wheel.

Yes, when you initially hear of a garage damaging a car, your mind instantly thinks of the car being abused and racing about dangerously (as has been documented in the press over the past few years). But something like this could happen quite innocently, i think... it's not like there's dashcam footage or logs of the car speeding through busy roads, so it's potentially wrong to jump to the conclusion there's a necessity to find out how the car has been driving. But, saying all this - obviously something has gone wrong and the car has been damaged, so no matter whether the car was being raced about or not, it's been looked after in a non-ideal way, and should be put back to the condition (or better) than how it arrived.

Sent the manager the 3 pics i took and he s forwarded them onto the body shop for an opinion on getting it booked back info for a bumper realignment, also told him fro my standpoint that i would like a new wheel and tyre and another tyre at trade price to match. He didnt think i was being unreasonable with that request so will update when he gets back to me.

if you take a car to a garage for a service, you then pick your car up in the same condition you left it, if there's a damaged wheel , damaged tyre and damaged to the wing or what ever, and they've repaired the wing and not put it back correctly then then it needs to go back and get it fixed to how it was when you dropped it off, its not that hard

example, if I lend my X box to me friend across the road, I get it back damaged, he's got to buy me another one, simples

Apart from the idiot that caused the damage, your garage sounds bloody decent tbh.

I agree, the manager phoned me back saying that bodyshop would like it to be rebooked for re alignment. Ive also to email him my tyre size and tyre I want as I spoke to him about upgrading to Conti SC5s and he ll get them ordered. so far so good...
