AMD Announces RX 470 and RX 460 cards

Asus tease their AIB RX460:

Interesting performance claims though - that would not be far off a R9 380 or GTX960 in Doom:

Edit!!

Some more leaks:

First one is a reference card, but for 3DMark we need to compare AMD to AMD and Nvidia to Nvidia IMHO:
http://www.trustedreviews.com/amd-radeon-r7-370-review-benchmarks-page-2

That score is bang on the score for the R7 370.

However,it seems the AIB cards have a huge improvement,if you look at the second link.

The score is more like an R9 270X.

It does indicate the reference card might be throttling to keep within TDP limits.

OTH,going by TPU figures,an R7 370 is quite close to a GTX950 now:

https://tpucdn.com/reviews/ASUS/RX_470_STRIX_OC/images/perfrel_1920_1080.png

If the AIB cards get close to an R9 270X,it might mean close to GTX960 level performance for AIB partner cards.

It's still a very, very poor card for gamers. Awful even.

You have a 470 which is about 970 perf, give or take. For £200-£220.

Your next card down is 7850 to 7870 perf. For £100 to £130?? A 970 is 70% faster, but £200 is too much for many gamers. Not to mention that 7850s are about £25 and 7870s about £35 2nd hand. If you're utterly cash starved then the 460 is still a bad deal.

Where's the card many of us would have been interested in.. A £150 card with >380X perf. Given that you have been able to buy a 380X for £150 for some time, it's really sad that Polaris brings nothing better in this price bracket.

If the 470 had been £150 it would have fit the bill very nicely.

Anyone get the Sapphire 470 platinum?

At all speeds I have an annoying, sort of whine. It does not increase or descrease with fan speed. But even just at idle I can hear the whine from another room fan sound is silent from that distance if that makes sense.

I have checked a few videos on coil whine and not sure if it is or isnt that....

I have the platinum 470, the only noise is a very quiet buzz which is just the fan at low rpm.
If you put your finger on fan to stop it, is it still there?

No it goes away if I stop the fan, it sounds like I have the buzz sound you do, it's just loud enough to be heard from another room!

Checked the card is sturdy etc, its all in fine, supporting it makes no difference.

Interestingly the buzz sound does not increase under heavy load (gave it Arkham knight to try) consequently it's pretty awful all the time.

Fan bearing gone/faulty, RMA it.

My new cards here, starting to think these cards are a bit hit and miss quality inspection wise.

The plus side the new one has less of a whine/buzz, which is good.

However the fan sound under load on dark souls 3 is waaaay louder that previous card, Will try arkham knight tonight.

Debating on keeping it a few months and selling it and getting a dual fan or big fan one.

Doesn't help my case is not great sound wise, having said that my old 7770 was almost silent, even quite quiet under load . Perhaps expecting too much.

Exactly that. A 460 isn't all that much faster than a 6770, which I bought for ~£80 brand new like 5 years back. It's appauling to see that's there's not been much improvement since then. I'd have thought at least double performance at the same price by these 5 years. Granted the 460 is selling for a whole lot more.

It seems technological advancement has slown down recently, at least in terms of graphics cards and price to performance.

£150 is the magic number and with current gen... there's pretty much nothing decent at that price. Even the 460 gets beat by a 950 fairly often.

Emm,it is much faster than an HD6770!!

The HD7770 was like 25% faster than an HD5770/HD6770. The aftermarket RX460 cards seem to trade blows with the GTX950 which is significantly faster than an HD7770.

The main issue is pricing,so realistically the ones for much above £100 are not that great value for money but the weak pound is not helping AMD and Nvidia card prices either.

Having said that the GTX1050 might have an easy target though.

Given that our worst estimates have all come true, I'd be happy to bet that a 1050 will be £160, and trade blows with a 960.

It'll be laughable, but people will have nothing else to buy at that price point.

It would not surprise me TBH,but it saves 30W of power though!! :sarcasm:

Its not helped we now have the GTX1060 3GB at £190 to £200 as the RX470 4GB and RX480 4GB competitor too. Meh.
