Hi all,

I've been looking at some volunteering opportunities and someone mentioned to me about being an independent custody visitor but I had never heard of it before.

It seems to happen in a fairly similar way all over the country but here is some information for the Hampshire Constabulary:

http://www.hampshire-pcc.gov.uk/Get-Involved/Independent-Custody-Visiting.aspx

Is this something anyone has been/is involved with?

Thanks :)

theres got to be a more constructive way of volunteering surely?

Why not get involved in youth programs or something and help reduce the risk of them getting locked up in the first place?

All the ICV's who visit my custody block are retired, as they have nothing else to do in the evenings.

They arrive at the station unannounced, get shown around, speak to each of our little darlings in turn (if the little darlings want to speak to them), make sure all the food is in date, fill in their reports and leave.

In the 9 years I've been working in custody, I don't think they've ever picked up on anything we're doing wrong. Although they did find some out of date tea once.

They haven't picked up on anything you're doing wrong? shhhhh  If you decide to edit that one out I will too. It's still early I doubt anyone's seen it!
