OcUK Theme - have your say!

The reply functionality (the thing I'm typing in to right now) needs a little bit of optimisation for mobile devices i.e phones.

Other than that, I don't think the forum needs too much of a redesign.

They abide by the size rules but occasionally the last game you played might up the size of the image file and the signature will be removed. So now there are hardly any people left using them, which I think is a shame.

The no swearing in videos rule I think is pointless and a hindrance in the PC games section. The amount of times I see people wanting to post up a video to help someone else but they can't because there is a swear word in it.. I agree there shouldn't be swearing allowed in posts, but when there's one hidden away in the middle of a video I think a bit of leniency by the mods would be good.

Swearing videos are allowed as long as users are forewarned about said swearing.

I also don't think they can be embedded if they have swearing.

Other than making the forums more mobile friendly I honestly wouldn't change a thing.

+1

Leave it pretty much as is. It's a good forum. Maybe different coloured themes if you so wish but blue as standard.
If you upgrade, please please keep the forum snappy, that's what i love about this forum, it's always on point and snappy, never any delay with bringing threads up, i have a slow tinternets as well...:)

fis the broken search button on mobiles.

add auto sizing to pictures like the dark theme has to avoid the size rule.

A mobile theme and forum software that was released within the last decade is badly needed. Navigating threads on a 5" screen by having to zoom-in on tiny links every single page refresh is NOT fun.

I honestly cannot see the issue with using our own avatars. I know it's been mentioned in this thread about them but surely we could stick to the same size, Black and white but with whatever image we deem to represent ourselves on these forums. We all have a personality and I think it is good practice to let us advertise that in an avatar too. I would imagine it will not be any different to moderate than our own forum signatures. You trust us to stick to a certain size sig, with maximum dimensions and that do not contain anything nasty like nudity, swearing etc. Why not with Avatars?

Other than Avatars, I would like to see auto resizing of images.

That's it.

This i agree. The avatars we have now are 'out of date' Also being the last owners idea. Seems like OcUK are stuck in the past with the avatars. Its why i dont put mine up as showing as they look stupid! Childish even!

Fix the thing that is supposed to take you to the last read post in the thread, any other suggestions are probably far too extreme - like not using light text on a dark background.

I dont post often as I've no idea if what I've said has been replied to, I'd like a notification system.. I'd post more then

Thanks for the suggestion. I'm personally not a fan of the gangster theme, maybe there's something to be had for what you said... just a little concerned of having to moderate 1000s of avatars! :o

Well presumably they get resized on upload (most likely through imagemagick), so just add the flag to convert to black and white to the flags that set the sizes.

But are you guys not moderating 1000s of signatures currently?:p

Edit: The rank system needs an overhaul. If the forum does change its theme then I vote basic rank system. Something like this.

Moderator
??
Senior member
Member
New member
??
profit?

Just add post count range for each rank.

Also, IF we could have our own avatars, I see some forums have a button or drop down thing on the avatars displaying computer spec. This could help answer questions posted regarding PC issues. Saves time and also saves people asking for your PC spec. I would like to see a little more info on our avatar bit too. We have currently:

joined
location
posts

Why not add- (if members want it displayed of course)

Xbox live GT
PSN GT
wii GT
Steam GT
Origin GT
Etc etc.

It makes sense as we are all members of a PC forum and pretty much all own a console of sorts.

Also :) .... Last thing I promise.

We have a vast membership. A great deal of us are specialists in a field of some sorts or have a great amount of knowledge on a certain subject. Why not have a rank or sub rank/specialist tag with that members subject. Example- myself would be Specialist Fishmonger and Butcher. Anyone with a question on those subjects could post and maybe tag me in it to view as I may not even be looking for a thread on butchery or fishmongering.

So how about tagging people in posts/threads. I see a lot in motors with [TW]Fox in thread title, mainly about BMWs. Allow tagging. Simples.

In all the years I have either ran or moderated a forum, I have never had to remove/change an avatar.

For me, this is what lets down this forum, I find it extremely difficult to differentiate between users as most people have opted to use the one image they are allowed to use; lots of avatar clashes everywhere.

You could easily get away with custom avatars if you restrict it to 64x64 (max 100x100) and filetype as JPG or PNG. vBulletin will definitely allow you to do this with ease.

Im a Super Moderator on another large computer forum and have been for 6+ years, and while its not as big as this forum (60k members) i dont recall us ever having to remove somebody's avatar.
You really should install the zefan.module script - its a bit overly strict but those bytes you save in bandwidth could be used for a rainy day

ps3ud0
