10k to spend, Mercedes or bmw

OK I need a new car for work and family. Quite a bit of driving for the next 3 months then it will settle down. I was looking at a newer Honda civic since you can get lots of bells and whistles for 10k but then thought I could go s bit posher and comfier with a merc or BMW, maybe not the toys I would get on the civic but I think they would be comfier on the motorway. What say you all, what can u get for my money

thanks peeps, didnt really think about skoda's. I dont really want anything as big as a land barge though. The BMW looks nice but a smidge out of budget. 10k is really the limit.

Ask for the £748 off to get it for £10k. Negotiate.

If the superb is too big (which is what makes it the better, more comfortable cruiser), then go for an Octavia...

why not? i know naff all about cars so im looking for a pretty one, a fast(ish) one, new(ish), under 50k miles, able to interface with my android phone and ipod so i can play my music, comfy with a reasonably sized boot. And that's it. Oh, reliable and not insanely expensive when something inevitable drops off.

If the budget is so tight hat £748 is a squeeze on a £10k car then don't buy a used high mileage BMW or Mercedes because it'll be an insufferable ownership experience frought with concern about the next stupid bill.

Never stretch to buy an old German car.

It's amazing how vomit-inducing 4 door Mercedes cars are when compared to their 2 door variants. With Mercedes it's either buy a coupe or buy another brand's 4 door - like a BMW Grand Coupe.
