My mother's 61 reg Corsa needs some new wipers on the front and the dealer want £52 for them, where is a good place to order some from and what brands are good quality?

Thanks.

Used wiperblades.co.uk in the past and never had any issues :)

Tend to usually get Bosch ones.

Go on eBay and search "Aero Wiper Blades". They are way better than the ones on the Corsa, and around £5 a pair.

They let you choose the sizes... you should measure the windscreen and get the BIGGEST wipers that will fit without actually going off the edge.

Don't buy the size the instructions manual says... they are too small and will leave a massive gap unwiped on the top and bottom of the screen.

Remember passenger side is different from driver side. It's OK if they touch when rested.

+1 Bosch ones seem to last reasonably well, and never had any issues

Or just fit the correct specced size? There must be a technical reason why the manufacturer fitted that size rather than fitting longer blades (Bearing in mind linkages and motors will be specced to a certain load - longer blades will produce more drag).

Thanks for the info. I'll let my mother know what the options are.

Will probably end up getting some Bosch ones from somewhere. Even ECP is £20 less than the dealer's.

No... the aero blades (including the Bosch ones) are much lighter than the metal frame wipers the car comes with so you can use longer ones without straining the motor.

My Focus is specced to have 19" wipers... I'm running 28s (or 26" can't remember), and have been for a year now with no problems whatsoever.

Weight is irrelevant - it's surface area that causes drag and strain. While we all like to think we know better than the manufacturers, there must be a reason why they were sized like that.

I recently bought some Michelin Stealth wipers off eBay for a Focus. Easy to fit and work very well. Got them off eBay for £23.99.

Focus is 26 on drivers side, 17 on passenger, I doubt you've fitted a 26 in place of a 17 or 19.
Andi.

Just bought some Bosch from ECP, they've currently got 25% off everything until the end of the month. Also fit them yourself, don't pay a dealer to fit them. That price is hysterical and just goes to show how they love to rip off people who may not know how to change wiper blades. For reference it should take you less than 5 mins to swap them out.

Cost, smaller blades are going to be slightly cheaper.

Wiper motors are mass produced in vast numbers, they are not going to be specified and fine tuned to every specific application.

For a bottom of the range model, every 0.1P counts.

There are plenty of decisions that manufactures make (especially on bottom range models) that are not necessarily in the owners interest (EG No spare wheel, Increasingly, no underseal/rust protection, Low capacity sumps with extended oil changes and so on)

But yes, the manufacturer has a good reason for all things and works hard in your best interests as an owner and driver. ;)

On the other hand, I wonder what the MOT position is if you avoid a large stone chip by fitting slightly smaller blades? :p

Don't bother with Halfords own brand - can guarantee they will be scraping and squealing within a month.

Go with Bosch, or frankly pay the money for the branded item - I had Skurrays in Swindon change the wipers three years ago on my Corsa and they are still going strong.
