I have the money in my bank and I need to pay my main dealer for a car

But am struck on how the best and quickest way to pay/transfer about 24k
As I was thinking of doing just a normal bank transfer to the dealer account but the dealer reckons some banks/accounts have a transfer limit of 10k per day

Help guys as I was hoping to have the car for this bank holiday weekend but they need the payment completely cleared into there account..

You just insert your debit card into the chip and pin reader and enter your pin.

It is literally just like buying something from any other shop.

Then keep the card receipt for lolz.

That what I thought as that how I payed for my last car (But that was only 3.5k but they took 7k by mistake :() ..
But the dealer reckons I need to sort out with my bank before they can take that amount of payment through a debit card..

Speak to your bank before you make the payment though, they might find it suspicious and decline it. Seen it happen to customers at work.

I once bought a new car with hard cash. The salesman was a bit stunned when I piled it on his desk on pickup day lol. It looked like we had just knocked off a bank on the way over.

I've tried to call the bank first before and they didn't want to know.

Once it was declined and I immediately had a phone call from the bank. The other times it just went straight through.

Years ago (like proper years) a ***** from a local caravan park bought his brand new Ferarri F355 with cash. Think it was something like £100k. Apparently took them around 3 hours to count it. It was brand new on an L plate. Obviously you couldn't do that now. Think he did a LOAD of driveways.

Had no issues paying 10k for my car with a debit card. It went through like I was buying a sandwich from Tesco. It was quite spooky really.

When I bought my last car it was declined despite it being a lot less money, though. Just whack it in, if it gets declined and you have to speak to the bank it'll be sorted in 5 minutes anyway.

If you look at my post number 4 you see I wrote I had x2 payments taken for my last car

The First payment of 3.5k didn't go through completely because I took my card out of the machine to quick but the bank held that 3.5k money for about 7 to 10 days before it went back into my account and there was nothing my local bank could do about it.

The £10k limit on transfers tends to be a single transaction limit. Just make 3 transfers, £10k, £10k, £4k.

Had no problems transferring this way when I paid the deposit on my house.

That said, I'd put some nominal amount on your credit card also, that way you get more protection (that granted you shouldn't need, but you never know).

I put £2k on my credit card and £6.4k by debit card and the rest was my trade in.

I had enough to cover it all on debit card but it is smarter to put a small sum on credit card for the protection.

Surely the deposit they always seem to need before commencing with about a week of undefined faffing before you can collect the car and pay the balance is all you need to stick on the CC for that?

Sorry, £5.9k on debit card, I did put £500 down 5 days before I arrived.

last time, 19k, I tried the debit card (there were funds available) and it was declined, I spoke to the bank and ended up doing £500 on the debit card then doing an online transfer at the dealership. They were able to confirm reciept the next day, then spent a week faffing with prep etc before we could drive it away. Yes, not ideal but that is how it happened!

eta, used approved, not new. I am sure I could have signed up for £70k if it was new and on finance/pcp...
