hey guys,

due to a lot of help and advice from you guys on the forum, i have decided to keep my setup till i can afford a new intel setup later on the year.

what im going to do is order a phantek p400 case and a AIO cooler for my fx8350. this will allow my setup to be quieter and overclock some more to help with my "bottlenecking" in games.

what i want to know is how is the DEEPCOOL MAELSTROM120 as a cooler if anyone has experience with it? or should i go coolermaster, antec or corsair?

cheers guys, RTJ

You'd be better off spending money on a highish end air cooler than wasting you money on an AIO if you are expecting it to be quieter.

An AIO unit has to have fast moving fans and a fast spinning pump to operate. With a highish end air cooler you can have a single fan chugging along at near silent 600rpm and it'll keep temperatures in check.

what cooler do you recommend, im looking for cheap and still an efficient cooler.

The DEEPCOOL MAELSTROM120 is around $75 from what I could find.

For that kind of money you can get the Noctua NH D15S or the NH U12/14S, which will be far more silent than the AIO and perform better.

i currently have a Cooler Master Hyper TX3 installed, if i change my case but keep that cooler on, it would save me money, time and hassle..

is that still a good cooler? or would a AIO water cooler make a BIG difference?

Well the TX3 is a smaller cooler as it has only a 92mm fan so wouldn't compete too well with anything mid to high end these days.

A 120mm radiator based CLC cooler would probably be an upgrade but you'd have to expect extra noise from the fast fan and pump. To have a quiet water cooled system you'd need to go custom with larger radiators and have deeper pockets.

There are a multitude of single tower and dual tower air coolers with 1,2 or even 3 fans. Personally I run a single tower Noctua cooler with a single 120mm fan that spins around 600rpm so is basically pretty quiet and keeps my hot CPU to tolerable levels.

The only benefit to a 120mm radiator closed loop system as far as I'm concerned is aesthetics. Some people seem to like the appearance of the little black circly thing and pipes and can put up with the noise. I prefer a stonking great lump of aluminium that is quiet.

At 161mm clearance your case apparently will fit a D14 (160mm) but it will be tight. There are a few builds out there to prove it does work.
