New Car Ideas Wanted - Driving 60 Miles a Day

I guess at 60 miles a day, it puts you towards the smelly diesel territory. You don't like the Superb but how about the smaller Octavia? Great cars for the money, or do they look too similar for you?

I'd say from reading his posts, he lives on an island so a diesel could struggle to warm up properly on lower speeds roads unless he has a good NSL road to hoot down every day.

Personally, I'd stick to the Astra and keep the 350Z for nicer days. I strongly doubt the fuel savings would be sufficient for a diesel, and a 25 mile commute is hardly much.

Could probably just manage an e90 efficient dynamics. Plenty of mpg!
I wouldn't bother though. I'd probably keep the two you have. The 350z is a bundle of fun!

i did 80 miles a day in a suzuki swift sport with 2 passengers so you have no excuses

both of those will be fine for a 60 mile commute and much more fun the rest of the time :)

Hi guys, thank you for all the replies, been busy the last couple of days and not able to respond.

Essentially the roads on the island are a bit of a mixed bag between A's and B's but no duel carriageways or anything like that. Part of the journey will probably be at 70 mph but a little twisty in places. By mainland standards its still not much in commuting terms but its a big change from my current circumstances.

Keeping the Astra isn't really a practical option. Its getting on in years and while still decent enough to keep were that the only consideration once I have moved the 3 doors and lack of boot space may well be more of an issue than currently. As it stands I live close to my parents so can borrow their car if the need arises but that becomes another large car journey to do that once I move.

I will be sorry to see the 350z go but its just not practical at all for me now. As a single guy with no mileage to do and no practicalities to think of its brilliant and served me well as a daily driver but that's simply not my situation any more

I have a Volvo V50, and while it's the most boring car on Earth, it's the most comfy thing I've ever had the pleasure of driving. I drove an S60 recently too and that was exactly the same, so might be worth a look :)

I commute 60 miles a day and since about January this year I've gone through about £1400 worth of fuel. I am missing some receipts though so that figure is on the low side.

I did buy a mk4 golf GTD but it had too many electrical issues, so gave it back and have just carried on commuting in the S3. I was looking at Focus ST3 diesel's on lease with up to 20000 miles a year.

I'd just keep the 350z, 60 miles a day isn't that much and they're not that expensive to run. I did the same in a Z4 Coupe no problem.

As Ive said more than once neither car is practical for my change of circumstances for more reasons that just fuel economy I'm afraid. Ive removed the option of keeping the Z and that is whats prompted me creating this thread in the first place.

The fuel to do 60 miles a day 5/6/7 days a week in a 3.5 two seater is a waste of money in my eyes when I have so much else going on.
