The next Labour leader thread

I had a passenger at me because I told my partner to stay put in this passengers reserved seat. Didn't like it but on a packed Virgin train no way she would be standing for the duration of the journey.

Seat reservations are free. If you can't be bothered to make one at least have the decency not to deny somebody else who did the seat they booked.

I'm not someone who could ever vote for Corbyn. But I respected him as a straight talking genuine conviction politician. After this backfiring propaganda stunt even that has gone.

Unless I had kids with me that were exceptionally tired or my partner who was pregnant nope.

That's very selfish and inconsiderate. It's also against the railway bylaws.

While reserving is free... One of the lines used to me was "I've paid for that seat".

There were no seats on the train, I gave up my seat thus freeing it for one of the two passengers but told my partner to stay put, that's when they started having a go.

You didn't give up your seat. It wasn't your seat in the first place, it was theirs as they had a reservation.

Your gf must be one lucky lady burnsy having a bloke like you who wont give up his seat for a heavily pregnant lady.

I guarantee, if the situation arose again she would not be getting up. Its called common decency.

When I see a man elected on 60%+ of membership being hounded by the press, stabbed in the back by his own party and harried and harassed incessantly by a media who has one goal (to eliminate a threat as proven conclusively by two reputable sources), then I will say something.

How old are you Faustus? I'm guessing at least 50 given your adumbration? What then, I wonder was your opinion of Tony Benn?

My god, he's a Blair convert :D

With reference to the last part of your paragraph, nearing retirement. Benn was a great orator. A man that was born into wealth, who felt uncomfortable in that role but was never going to carry the electorate along with his mandate of left wing policies.

despite the fact its not enabled cant you see the obvious flaw?

No, I don't see the obvious flaw because I am not a little meek mouse and would quite happily say sorry but I have this seat reserved as per my ticket here. It's not rocket science you know.

There is no overhead reservation display on Mk4 stock.

Fair enough I've never seen them without tbh. But as I've said I wouldn't travel with them anyway for me they are no quicker and over 5 times the price. But I think my point stands the system is ambiguous. One would expect a politician to be able to comprehend it though. However, when that politician can only get those grades after that education then you can never be that sure ...

Firstly, I would have had the foresight to have booked. Secondly, I would have asked the person that booked and tried to appeal to their sense of charity. Ultimately, I would have realised that it was my fault for being in this situation having not reserved and certainly not wanted to be rude to someone who has followed the rules because of my mistake.

It's not common decency, it's your sense of entitlement.

I gave up the seat I was sitting in then but told my gf to stay put in the reserved seat.

Was that seat also reserved?

Wait, if she was heavily pregnant why didn't you book a seat for her in the first place? Sounds like she's the lucky lady :p

I highly doubt that. And while I did hold Blair in high regard I feel that image faltered and fell after hearing about his avarice from around the 2010 mark (maybe a little later).

In my view he would have turned everything around. I have a great respect for him, a pity then the apple has fallen so far from the tree.

Reserved a seat when there was no seats? How does that work exactly? The only seats we were able to reserve were the return journey.

So you would have made your pregnant partner stand because of your "its our fault darling"... *what a man what a man what a mighty
..

The seat I was in was evidently reserved yes however there was no ticket attached only the passenger showed me their reservation and tried to get my partner to move. To which I said she was 8months pregnant to which they then commented rudely so got it back.

As above, had to have a snap journey with no reserved seating available... I protect my girl, you have yours walked over that says more about being with me than it does you? No? Or are you going to try another tact of blaming me in-laws for their ill timed events?

While I feel this is wandering off topic a little (and I'm not trying to antagonise), a less confrontational approach might have been to enquire with the train staff at the start of your journey and ask if some accommodation could be made; they probably would've been quite helpful. As pointed out, you were in breach of railway bylaws which, if enforced, could've lead to your removal from the train. And where would that leave you and your partner?

I know your not trying to antagonise. I wasn't confrontational, I was polite until they made rude and unpleasant remarks. Judging by how Virgin train staff "dealt with" people on the way back, being kicked off the train is not likely.

I bet she would have been so proud of you if a confrontation had ensued that ended up with you carted off at the next stop by the transport police.

That's making the wrongful assumption I would have instigated the confrontation and been the one to turn it physical

By not vacating a reserved seat you would be the one instigating the confrontation even if the other person then escalated it. Quite simple eh! ;)

You do realise how this is making you look yes? Dragging it off for a troll to try and justify making an 8month pregnant woman stand? Know what kind of "man" you are
