First car. Buy, lease, hire , finance? Help

What kinda insurance are you paying?
Upper hundreds - It's New Licence Category syndrome, regardless of how many years I've been on a motorcycle already. However, I get 1yr NCB thanks to a company AstraVan and in October that figure halves.

The scrape I had was in my ex's car in 2014 on a provisional and only slightly damaged the side of another car, I have no records of it and no contact with her whatsoever, how does this work? If I phone them can they 'find' it?
If a claim was made, or if anyone told your insurance about it, there should be a record.
But if none of that happened or if it was outside the period they enquire about, then you don't need to worry.

I'd personally not count it at all, since that was a learning mistake while you were (presumably?) under instruction still... But if in doubt, get a quote and ask. You're under no obligation to buy anything and you don't have to give them licence numbers or anything identifiable until you actually buy the policy.
You could claim to be Rasputin if you like, as you're only aftera quote.

Very helpful guys :)

The quotes I was getting were around £1200+ annual. ttaskmasterwhen you said upper 100s you mean monthly? because 1200 sounds a lot if so !

I did look at Fords. Can you fit a head unit to any car? I remember Fiesta's and ex's KA's not looking like you could replace the radio (I'm an idiot remember my memory is of in the late 90s radio's just slotting in ;))

Sounds like you don't need a car on daily basis so why don't you just hire one when you want to go some where on your day off? Once you get a mortgage then you can look at buying one.

Or just find another gf with a car that you can use :)

Pretty much :)

There are adaptors and fascia's that will allow a standard head unit to fit into pretty much any cars dashboard! I have done it several times myself.

Every radio can be removed, sometimes you need some specific keys, other times you have to remove some plastic trim to reveal screws, but they all come out one way or the other :)

No, I mean for the full year, fully comp with all the extras.
£1200 is about right for a newish, youngish driver... I'm obviously not that young, but fairly new to driving cars, so I get hit for about the same even on a 1.0L Polo!!

Damn and that's without them knowing about the claim on my ex's car! I'm nearly 30! Does it only go down with years of driving not years of life?

What would I google to see examples of this? I just can't imagine it as no radio unit's you see in cars nowaways seem to be a rectangle shape like I recall in my youth :p

That are lots of variables with insurance. Your age, how long you held a licence, no claims bonus, previous claims or convictions, medical restrictions, how many miles you do a year, your postcode, your marital status, your job, how many miles you cover, car type, where its parked and on and on...

Re aftermarket stereo's, most car's you will be able to replace the unit. Some cars may require a larger 'double din' unit, you can get fascia inserts to use an aftermarket stereo and adapters for the wiring loom. some cars you can even get OEM style units that are made to fit exactly.

7th gen 1.6 civic sport was my first car. Looked pretty smart in silver. Good mpg I averaged 36mpg urban driving. Cheap to insure, never let me down. Was loads of fun. A lot better than a Clio or something like that.

As you say your tall I'm 6ft 3. Driving position was comfy even on long distance drives 3 hours plus. Can pick good examples up for 2k. Can't really think of a bad point.

You got be careful which car as some the adaptors and fascia's can cost around £500 if they have the heater & auto climate controls etc built in with the stock radio displays...

I know some madza's have there heater & auto climate controls mixed in with the stock radio and if you replace the stereo then the heater will not work without paying out around £500 for the special aftermarket adaptors.
and so does my new ford focus
