I have the S7 Edge which can easily last me 2 days with everything on, including always-on screen. Check in the battery use and make sure nothing is eating your battery. I did have it once where Media Server kept the phone fully awake for hours and drained it pretty fast. A reboot fixed this.

Reboot regularly. I have mine set to reboot on Saturday at about 4am (you can set this up in the settings).

Get https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.gsamlabs.bbm&hl=en_GB - run it for a while and make sure your phone is going in to Snooze mode. Snooze saves a LOT of battery. GSam will also tell you exactly what's using battery

If you have WiFi calling you could also switch to airplane mode while you have WiFi which will save a lot of battery.

Granted I'm not a massively heavy user, but if I was, it'd still easy last the day with everything on (location, data, wifi, etc.)

thanks ill try all these suggestions.

its a great phone its just something i have to play about with as only have it a week.

switched from a iphone 5s. had a faulty moto g4 inbetween

Galaxy S7 battery should easily get you through the day, probably Google services killing your battery.

Usually caused by background apps not playing nicely, just a matter of identifying them and limiting background data or removing them altogether.

seems to be. currently at 39% from 7am with 4 hours screen on time. haven't been overall heavy with it. just seems to be have to fiddle about with what needs disabled etc. as ive read online it should be easily a day of heavyish use.

There's quite a few battery stats apps. I used GSam Battery Monitor to track down excessive battery use to the media server process which was running continuously apparently due to a corrupt mp3 on my Micro SD card.
