I test drove a black edition and ST back to back and thought the 1ltr was a really good engine, really fun to drive and was a 'very happy car'. The ST was much more focused. I ended up leasing a ST3.

Compare the cost of the car to a lease, they are very competitive on the Fiesta.

Seems mental logic to be so close with purchase price between the two then be put off by about £400 difference of tax + insurance.

while the 1.0 is not a bad engine/car combo I'd go for ST! spend more time looking and get one.

depending on the lease deal. if its good then i would consider 140ps.

that red edition for £12,000 is not good deal as ST is only a little more

Well the OP stated a cash purchase and the amount of cash they have is enough to get an ST. There's a small difference in running costs, so it's up to the OP if they want to spend another few hundred quid a year for the ST.

That is the Zetec S. The Red Edition is a lot closer in price to the ST which makes it a much more viable option.

Try and get an estimate of the depreciation of both models. The purchase price isn't all that matters.

Also check servicing costs of the ST and how much an extended warranty will cost (as it is older). Add that to the higher insurance and tax and it isn't just a few hundred between the two.

I have a Zetec S Red Edition (http://www.evo.co.uk/ford/fiesta-ze...-red-edition-review-the-insurance-friendly-st) and had the option to lease an ST instead at the same time. Infact the red edition was cheaper than a standard Zetec S at the time.
