Ford Fiesta Red Edition

Seems mental logic to be so close with purchase price between the two then be put off by about £400 difference of tax + insurance.

depending on the lease deal. if its good then i would consider 140ps.

that red edition for £12,000 is not good deal as ST is only a little more

When I looked the ST was about £60 more per month with a higher deposit. Sure the ST would have been nice but for what I needed it for the Zetec-S made much more sense. It's not quite as cut and dry as some people are making it out to be.

Well the OP stated a cash purchase and the amount of cash they have is enough to get an ST. There's a small difference in running costs, so it's up to the OP if they want to spend another few hundred quid a year for the ST.

This is OcUK Motors, hot hatches are always the answer :p

That is the Zetec S. The Red Edition is a lot closer in price to the ST which makes it a much more viable option.

Try and get an estimate of the depreciation of both models. The purchase price isn't all that matters.

Also check servicing costs of the ST and how much an extended warranty will cost (as it is older). Add that to the higher insurance and tax and it isn't just a few hundred between the two.
