What have you done to your car today?

Yes, it's good in the 520d and the stop aspect is good in mine, too. It seamlessly stops and is wonderful at the lights. But when you go to start again it's a bit intrusive in the 6 cylinder ones, which is odd as it's fine in the 4 pots.

Interesting - I've experienced it on a few 4 cylinder engines, albeit not BMW, and it's been pretty poor at restarting. As you say, stopping is always fine though - one that stops and starts seamlessly would go a long way to convincing me to get a diesel, as it's only really at idle that modern ones are intrusive.

Alright, so got on my backside and elbow greased the broken headlight beam adjuster joint off, then put on the new one. It's actually much more tedious than it looks. Not quite as tedious as the door actuator on the E46, but close enough if you decide not to take the wheel off, because that is also tedious.

The state of the old one was not ideal.

I then noticed something...

The universe does not like the E46, folks.

It will require plugging in the morning. Will take it to the kwik fit down the road. It is letting out faint puffs of air if I screw around with it. So will just leave it be for tonight.

I didn't find changing the E46 door actuator was actually that bad, I think it took me around 35 minutes all in for the Mrs' compact.

I'm sad that nobody found my joke hilarious. :p

It's sad you had to comment on the fact no-one cared about your pun.

I took front and rear wheels off to ascertain which of the 4 "braking systems" Toyota fitted to 2002-2007 Corolla's my car had, in order to order new pads and swap them out this weekend.

Make sure they do it properly, tyre off, clean inside of tyre, glue in plug.

Many places try and get away with a dangerous quick type from the outside.

Wow, never seen an external plug before. The way they (should) work is that they are mushroom shaped and inserted from the pressure side.
