Hey guys some help would be appreciated on this.

I'm looking to upgrade my PC for the release of Battlefield 1.

Current build is in my signature, my question is.. should I go for a full brand new build or build around my i5 2500k? I know the i5 is really old but from what I've seen, it's still an 'okay' CPU for it's age.

I want to upgrade either way but I wouldn't want the motherboard upgrade to hinder possibly buying a better CPU in the future.

Spec me a full re-build or a build around my i5! £500-600.

Case, RAM, Motherboard, GPU, PSU and maybe a new cooler?

Just dump all your money into the best GPU you can justify IMO.

You won't keep your CPU with a motherboard upgrade so it'll have to be CPU, motherboard and RAM together.

Case is always nice when doing an upgrade (Makes everything feel new). What PSU are you using?

So keep my current build? Just replace the GPU?

Current PSU is: Antec TruePower New Modular 650W '80 Plus Bronze' Power Supply.

If you cant be bothered to do a fresh install then don't bother with the SSD. If you are happy with the case don't bother with that either. A nice GPU upgrade should be all you need for a good battlefield experience. CPU cooler should be fine. Maybe give everything a good dust when you put the new gpu in?

My basket at Overclockers UK:

Total: £614.93
(includes shipping: £0.00)

Just drop a 1070 in...I did and my games are great on ultra at 1080p. My PC is similar spec to yours by the way. I was going to do a new build and thought I would test the old system with a new card first. It confirmed for me that my old PC did not need an upgrade for 1080p.

If you were to build a new machine the compromises you'd need to make to keep it below £600 wouldn't be worth it. You'd end up with moderately better CPU/RAM but only a 1060 or lower.

The money is best spent on a 1070 and a nice SSD (And if you have spare a new PSU/Case wouldn't go a miss).

Could you spec a decent card for under £300 then? Will a newer card such as a 1070 be compatible with my motherboard/PSU?

Thanks for this guys.

Do you have a hard drive on top of that SSD already? i assume you must do as its pretty small?

I have a couple of old SATA 500gb hard drives, yeah.

Might need to update the bios on the motherboard, but more often will just work as is. PSU should be fine the latest bunch of cards are a lot less power hungry than the previous few generations. :)

Brilliant, thanks pal.

Fair enough, its quite a jump from the 1060 to the 1070 anyway

Yeah the price is pretty big, is there a big jump in performance?
