Car Suggestions - Around £10K

Tbh its simply not accurate either - I struggle to crack 20mpg in stop start traffic with a medium hatch and 240ish bhp.

There aren't many diesels that will struggle (once warm) to beat that easily - albeit the gap will probably only be 10mpg or so

Always find it funny that am happy to pay out many thousands of pounds extra to buy a high performance car over the much lower power standard models

Am Happy with paying the extra for the high running costs like Pricey Big performance tyres ,higher service charges , Higher parts prices, better oil etc etc

Am Happy with paying extra for the insurance on a high performance car

But I never liked paying out the extra cash every week for the extra fuel they drink.......:D

Tbh it makes little difference for my use and mileage - I'll use the fiesta for the odd week which is quite a bit better on fuel but any discernable difference to the pocket the better mpg makes is quickly wiped out by the odd extra trip somewhere.

If you added up all the marginal costs though you'd soon see that running any sort of slightly older, quick ish car makes no financial sense unless that's what you actually want

Hows about something with the VAG ACT engine? 7.something 0-60 and 60ish mpg apparenty.
Loads of Ibiza FRs or Leon TSIs around for less than 10 grand, plus the occasional Polo GT. Not seen any Golfs for anywhere near that yet, sadly.

Will have a look thanks. Do you think diesel will be best for me? Or should I go with 320i?

Cheers

Cant speak for the newer gens, but a mate of mine has the e92 320i and he's lucky to see 35mpg

My 325i sits at 30 constantly, if your ok to deal with that mpg then fire away.

The 320d's shift pretty well, theyre certainly no slouch, the petrols just sound better when you get the boot down.

What's your view on the 1 series? I've quite liked the look of the VW Golf GTI's and I guess the BMW equivalent would be the 1 series?

Thanks again

Nice wee motors, rwd with a bit less weight on the rear than a 3 series.

The 1 series coupe is a lovely motor, although well above my price range for a good one.

Not quite as powerful but i cant imagine the 120d/120i going to be too much of a slouch. Iirc the 120d is 140bhp but its got less car to move than a 320d

Theres a 135i if you fancy a pocket rocket

I've just sold my 120D M Sport Coupe, 177BHP standard but I had mine custom mapped to 217BHP and 335LBFT, nice car but not particularly exhilarating to drive power wise, you can't beat a petrol really. 135i I can imagine being brilliant, but a 125i can be mapped to 260BHP :)

Thought the 120d was 140 brake?

Ahh well, memory aint so good after all lol.

Also 260 for a 125, thats not the newest gen is it? I lookes into it for the 325 but i figured it wasnt worth the price for a 25hp increase over the 218 stock

Sounds awesome. Do you think I could get a 120i with bluetooth and sat nav for £15K? Hoping for something 2010+ really.

How much would remapping cost? What are the implications of this? Insurance costs? Death? Etc.. Haha

Cheers :)

What's going in here then? Plenty of hot hatches will do 50MPG, the notion that to get 50MPG out of a petrol you'd need a 1L Corsa in this day and age is ridiculous.

And I'm not sure how you were driving that Fabia TDI, but my Octavia TDI will do 50MPG plus in town and I haven't seen it go below 40MPG in dense town traffic...
